EBay lies - MR2 stuff

Post by Peter C »

I spend my lunchtimes looking for MR2 related stuff on Ebay and all too often I come across all sorts of strange claims / lies:

Nonsense about UK cars being restricted:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1991-TOYOTA-MR2-R ... 240%3A1318

The car is an automatic but apparently it has a new clutch:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1994-TOYOTA-MR2-B ... 240%3A1318

These are (worthless) JDM strips, not UK spec as claimed:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-MR2-MK2-Bu ... 240%3A1318

I wonder how many people have been mislead by dodgy Ebay sellers.

depends to be honest if you look at the quality of some of the ads you can tell that we are barely past pond life in intelligence basic parklife speech and grammar and really terrible ads that just shout Chav and run a mile!

The old favourite that gets me reads something like:

"Dis 1 is a import so it iz faster dan a uk car.
It also as a K&N on it in-it which makes it 185 orse power. I ad a cozzie a bit bak and dis feels az fast or a littel bit fazter..."

lol, seems you are not the only ones who spend your lunches (and work hours) searching the ebay.
I dont know whether half the ads are trying to impress and sound good, or actually trying really hard to be accurate - but don't have a clue!

IMO 99% of the stuff on there is rap with a capital 'C'

The guy with the black MR2 replied to my message and said that during the auto box rebuild all the clutches were replaced. Fair enough, but that is not what it says in the text.

My old favourite is:

I don't think it's limited to E-Bay TBH. But E-Bay bugs me full stop.

My biggest gripe with any kind of advert is the VERY RAIR and DesIRABLE!!!!!!!! USE of random Text Fonts, STYLES, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! marks, and statements saying u wl not fnd btrr or guaranteed money back!!!

FnK B4 U bd -thx fr Lukn!!!! :)

[what?????]

...this seems to be the normal these days. What happened to the old fashioned rules like, be honest, if you don't know don't say etc etc. Use a spell checker so most of it is legible at least (typo's are OK) -and check that the advert is legible in the first place!

I can't even get through that lot these days to find out what they're even talking about. I used to buy off the Bay but a while back and no more, ever.

...TBH, I think those are relatively good adverts apart from some very crucial details of course.

This is why I never bother looking on ebay uk as most of it's either crappy chineese badly made crap or just plain crap. Theres usually some decent bits and bobs on the us ebay and at least it has a chance of being a bargain. The occasion something half decent comes up on the uk one it always gets priced for/bid for silly money.

Dunno about buying cars though.

In my opinion the car does need a bit of love

Found this on ebay, for sale of some front lense indicator looms:

TOYOTA MR2 MK2 SIDE LIGHT AND INDICATOR LOOMS

TOYOTA MR2 MK2 FRONT SIDE LIGHTS AND INDICATOR LOOMS AND BULB HOLDERS ( IF I CAN FIND SOME BULBS I WILL THROW THEM IN ) . IDEAL FOR NEWLY IMPORTED MR2'S THAT DON'T HAVE ANY SIDE LIGHTS WHICH ARE A MOT REQUIREMENT OVER HERE .

Since when did import MR2's NOT have sidelights? #-o

I may be wrong, but I think the US spec ones don't. Doubt anyone imports them though

I thought Jap imports came with orange sidelight lens, and you had to replace them with white, to pass an MOT. So its kinda right.

not really as it is only the lense that is different, the indicator/sidelight loom (which the guy is selling) is the same as UK loom and will fit UK lenses, there is no diff between UK and Jap indicator and sidelight looms.

why do these people not know that the mr2 is a basic quad turbo setup???

it's pretty obvious, even in the original brochure it states: 1001bhp w16 quad turbo!!! 4wd!!
top speed 252mph 0-62mph, 3.6 seconds!!!
