[Mk2] [Turbo] decat + one bolt = >:(

Post by Mert »

hi there, there is this one bolt of the 7 I'm looking at trying to get off the cat but it just looks impossible. It's the bolt on the bottom left looking from the top.

There seems to be no space at all to work on from the top and from below it looks like a mission to squeeze a spanner up there let alone my hand!

Has anyone else done this, and how?!

cheers for any help.

You just have to keep going at it. I've got some shallow sockets and I used drive adaptors to space the socket out to a suitable point that I could get the bar on it. Also unbolt the dipstick tube and bend it out of the way, that helps.

not sure if they will be handy for you because of access, but they where a godsend when i removed my cat

I ended up snapping two bolts on the heatshield, the rest of the bolts came off with a bit of grunt.

I'll be sure to get some more tools before I give this another shot! thanks for all the tips, mucho help

bottom left one nearest the engine? Then you need a 14mm stepped ring end spanner :thumleft:

Hi, I spent last weekend doing the exact same job. Took me 8 hours, and now the engine runs hot. But it sounds awesome :D

I used a long 14mm Socket (sparkplug socket length) on a 1/2" drive, if we're talking bottom left (marked as 2). I used stepped ring spanner on number one though.
