[Mk2] [Turbo] Toyo R888

Post by sanchi »

Just wondering...

Was thinking about getting these tyres but using them for everyday use.

Any opinions from anyone/people who are using them?

How do you find them for daily use and in wet condition?

They will be going on a set of 15s and was looking to get 205/50 and 225/50.

Or I was just going to get the Yokohama Advan A022 tyres in the same profile.

Are you kidding?!

100% Summer tyre, could almost say excellent for Jun/July & Aug but after the last two years! a total waste, unless your gona track the car alot and general trillions of deg into them.

Have a look at Toyo R1R's! - would be perfect for you imo, R888 compound but more cuts making excellent in the wet, but if they're STILL notr released look at mine, NEW (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric) - Excellent summer tyre, better than old F1's but superb in the rain, they really come into their own! Check sizing though, I had to get old F1's for my fronts.

Hope this helps! :thumleft:

Henry Ford "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black"

Modifying a 1 liter is like giving my granny a E. It’s just wrong!!

The R1R has been delayed constantly and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric doesnt come in sizes bigger than 17 inches. Which is annoying because both those tyres would be my ideal choice for my 16's sitting in the shed with my worn fk452's.

unless goodyears have changed policy you won't get them in the std rear sizes. Haven't been around for a good few years now :(

I dont know what tyres to get in the profiles and size i want..

I can get hold of toyo proxies t1r tyres but they are abit soft on a 50 profile im after something with a harder compound.. thinking of the yokohama advan a022 tyres they seem to be available. :-k

Tried both the AO22 in 195/55/15 and 225/50/15 and T1-R in 205/50/15 and 225/50/15. For me the Toyo is the better everyday tyre. More comfortable, quieter, far better in the wet and more predictable and less 'nervy' in the dry (at least on my non-pas rev1). The softer tyre wall is rectified with a bit more pressure (3-4psi) and thus gives better economy as well. Over the first few mths gradually drop the pressure back till it's just about 2psi over standard.
In short.... T1-R wins it. :thumleft:

My Rear F1 Asymmetric are 245'35'18'

May offend here, T1R's are 5hite! Ive had 2/3 sets on different cars and have bought as part worn for desperate temp.! only my opinion, cheap and cheerful

tommy, problem is not many companies make proper tyres in relevant sizes :(

i've had both T1R/Ss and F1s (GSD2/3/Ass) in the Passt and whilst yes the goodyears outperform and outwear the proxes, theyre still pretty good. plus theyre about half the price.

in my opinion theyre an excelent BUDGET->MIDRANGE tyre. in this area they outperform the competition.

also re: R888s everyday, theyre track tyres plain and simple. i would never run them on a road car, unless it was something with serious traction issues and i could afford to go through them like fuel

I meant if you have smaller than 17 inch wheels the asymmetrics are not an option because the smallest sizes they make em are in 17 and upwards. They still make GSD3's in 16 inch but not in 15 inch sizes for the standard wheels.

I'm not a big fan of the T1R either, but the R1R has gotten some positive reviews in the us though.

I love the Assymetrics, agreed sizes are a pain! I had to go normal F1 on front (17's) and Assym. on rear as they're 18's! quality tread pattern on the rears mind and superb wet or dry! quieter too!

Have a look in modifications, probably around July time I posted pics of mine under something like New pics/amended Gram Lights 57 maximum pro, you can see the rear treads there I think! would add in link but dont know how too (thick!!) lol
