Ps How easy is this to fit?

If you're only running standard power and don't intend to increase boost in the future then I wouldn't bother uprating the IC.

And ICs are a real pain to fit.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Intercooler, PASS YOUR JUDGEMENT!!!!
Yeh thought
it wouldn't be easy to fit! really only looking to tidy up me engine bay! as me hoses are starting to look a little warn!

Well i`ve finally bought one from fleebay,
£109.99 from tuningpartsbay.

Should be here tomorrow or monday, got my new shroud from gtschris not going to put a fan on yet though been having this discussion about high speed restrictions http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... an&start=0

Just in the proscess of getting hold of a washer bottle and pump to make a IC water spary kit.
Might buy a fan evenutally
(see other topic) and mount it with out the cowling.

So once again watch this space

Well it arrived today and TBH it looks a nice bit of kit

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Intercooler, PASS YOUR JUDGEMENT!!!!
all xs power xxxx! never buy! spent 60,000 on two mr2's now lots of parts
!

i have berk tech and have 370 bhp it's ok but getting near limits
!
going boot mount flush to floor with fans on the back of intercooler drawing the air through
! where your reverse lights are, that gets a mesh bit put in.
it works on an mr2 with over 600 on
!

I got one off him too last week, got mine for

The clamps are a bit xxxx with it but the rest of it sweems good.

I've wasted plenty of money in the past on named stuff but theres no need too with all the stuff getting copied, its just for fan boys.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Intercooler, PASS YOUR JUDGEMENT!!!!
I think the top bracket snaps occasionally on some alloy intercoolers, not make specific as all mount to the car on the same 3 points.
Problem is the engine is free to move a little on its mounts and is connected via hoses to intercooler, which is bolted to the car and not free to move, most aftermarket kits use a short runs of stiff rubber hoses and more alloy pipe which causes a problem over stock set up of lots of softer rubber hose.

The kit you have bought looks really good better than the hoses that come with the normal xs power kit.
Dont forget to post up how well it all fits.

Had a near identical kit - you might find this worth having a look at :-)

Well started it friday afternoon about 4p.m had to stop about 7p.m due to light but almost finished.
(just for a time scale for you)

So far it just a couple of small problems i`ve come across,
-Intercooler pipes are a time consuming job to get into correct position.
-If your kit comes with the jubilee clips make sure you DON`T over tighten them.
-There is a hard pipe that comes from the intake manifold and goes behind the heat shield that i`m going to have to move permantly JeffD might be able to shed a bit of light on this

Hopefully i`ll be able to finish this off when this bloody rain stops
and give a bit of a review.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Intercooler, PASS YOUR JUDGEMENT!!!!
Right finished,

Tiny not sure what that pipe does i`ve managed to sqeeze it in but not been able to bolt to OE fixing.

Now for review:-

All in all not a bad piece of kit especially for just over
£100, the Ic seems well constructed the IC pipes are smooth inside and have a good outside finish, the sillicon hoses arn`t any thing special but they serve their purpose.

Removal of the old IC wasn`t to difficult for an novice mechanic,
(& thanks to JeffD`s write up
) i had to lean on the AC compessor to get it out but with patiance you`ll get there.

Installation of IC was easy only real difficulty was the pipe work but again patiance will win the battle.

Now the results, i wasn`t expecting to much of a difference after talking to a few poeple on here, but there is.

1st thing i had to do is turn my boost controller ratio down almost 10 point(blitz spec s) as when i set off it boosted to 1.2bar
(was set at 0.95-1bar)

2nd is the throttle responce, there seems to be a lot more control there the flat spots and hesitation have gone.

3rd is the noise there`s a very distinct high pitch whistle
(which i like
)

The next step for me is a spal fan without a coweling/shroud mounted off ic by approx 1/2" and a water spray system

Just on an observation note i never realised how hot the air was that left the turbo i touched the hot side IC pipe and brunt my finger

Loose the clips and get claps.
Mine use to pop off at 20 psi before getting claps

Well done Matt for doing it yourself. Only tthing I'm wondering though is the high pitch whisytle you mention - I think that will be a boost leak on one of your pipes - wopuld be worth checjking security of all the hose clips/connections. If in the near future you car appears to have the turbo "switched off" it will be a pipe popping off! :-(
Shouldnt be whistling...
