Went round a corner and a loud thud noise came from the rear of car which sounded as if the rear tyre burst. However it hasn't and i just here a loud ticking/rumbling noise as i move. The faster i go the louder it gets. Jacked car up and theres no play in the wheels but could this still be the wheel bearings? Any ideas?

you will be able to feel if the bearing has gone, sounds like something else to me...
check all the bolts/ball joints/bushes/exhaust mountings/suspension components/brakes etc. to see if its one of them.
had a rumbling noise on rear of mine for ages, couldnt feel any play in bearing, passed mot etc but changed the bearing anyway and the noise went so could well be the bearing mate.
i can only see one of your pics where the metal bit is hitting the bolt, isnt that bit just part of the car ie subframe its hard to tell with that pic glad i was right about checking driveshafts , as far as i can see with pic that bit thats hitting dont look like part of driveshaft so dont think you need a new one. just what has made that part hit the driveshaft worrys me is there lots of play in driveshaft and thats whats made it hit the subframe. are all engine mounts ok if thay had failed thay would cause engine to move and maybe driveshaft would move then not as it should. just some things for you to look at
