bmwbill wrote: Just got back from the trip and as you all know there was an accident involving one Mr2. Mark and Max both are OK the car is a write off but that doesn't matter it can be replaced. Mark was kept in the hospital as he had lost consciousness Max was discharged later that afternoon and traveled to Inverness with the rest of us. Having seen the photos of the aftermath of the crash we all are so glad that these guys survived with minor injuries. Max even managed to switch of the cars engine while it was upside down in the peat, Mark was unconscious at this time. A huge thank you goes out to everyone, from Allan and Andy who managed to stop the traffic coming in both directions to Carl who got there first and got the door open and got both of them out in fact everyone did there bit.
Shane, Susan and marks partner stayed with Mark at the Hospital.
This last bit comes from Max he would like all to know this was not Marks or anyone's fault.

:thumleft: Agree with this totally.Posting Pics of the aftermath will be up to Max and Mark, if they want them posted i would think, as to what had happend I can only say what the road was like as Shane, Michael, Gordon, Ally, Pete, Jinxy, Myself and Fred had past the Accident spot around a minute before it happened, this part of the road is very uneven it seems to be sinking into the bog as the road ungulates quite severely, the police said this was the third accident at that spot since wednesday this part of the road does need seeing to as the local guys who were with us said the road is getting worse. Sorry this is all i can say on the Accident

max was looking a lot healthier this am when we all had breaky and he's still the same joker :thumleft: Gawd bless ya son. Mark (watty) last heard of trying to get his petrol siphoned from the tank to pay for his upcoming bus fares, typical northern so we know he's back to normal

Take it easy both of you for a few days, no playing contact sports :eye:

Dear All,
I'm writing this from the Shevills house in Durham - we'll probably be back at home tomorrow. I'm tired and am aching a fair bit (even with stuffing my face with painkillers while in the car this afternoon) but can now move my neck and can't forget the fact that I'm on the whole okay. I spoke to Mark (the driver) for a while on the phone today and he's out of hospital and generally fine (the same as me really).

Thanks to all for the well wishes. It is really appreciated!

However, I really really have to thank everyone who was there. Never has a blokes voice sounded as good as Carl's did when we were upside down in the car... Everyone was great and no one really paniced (as far as I could tell!). It was very reassuring to have the help we did. I don't know what to say right now that can fully express my thanks to be honest - I felt completely fine in spite of what had happened, and that was thanks to those around keeping composed as well - a couple of guys took care of diverting traffic, a few stuck with us, some stayed with Sasha (my sis) who got to watch it all from her car that was following us, also the passing nurse and then GP who came over and helped out till the ambulance arrived...

I feel gutted for everyone that we never made it to Applecross pass. In spite of what happened on Sunday, I'm looking forward to going back next year to doing Applecross... :thumleft: Sunday morning aside, the weekend was awesome. ;)

Will be back online when I have more energy.

Seriously Max, glad to hear that you are on the mend. Reckon you'll be stiff for a week or two yet, but thats all the fun of neck injuries i'm afraid.

Just get plenty of rest and stop spending too much time on here.

I was watching a Staffordshire Fire and Rescue presentation on the aftermath of road accidents this morning - not a nice experience but it makes you think...then I saw this thread and got a sinking feeling.

Glad to hear you're in one piece Max :D Martina also sends her regards and hopes you make a rapid recovery. Commiserations to Sasha, can't have been a pleasant experience for her either :pale:

All the best.

Absolutely fantastic trip - 1350 miles of pure driving pleasure and I understand the scenery was nice as well! A job well done Shane and Susan Your attention to detail and and superb execution will become legendary.
Please book us on next years trip to finish what we started.

A special thankyou goes to everyone who assisted on Sunday - if I had to pick a team to help me out of a jam - you'd be The Team. :thumleft:

Our very best wishes go to Mark and Christina and Max and Sasha xx

To the rest of you a nice big  You really make it a special trip...

Carl 'n' Bev

P.S. sorry for the double post on the other tread...

Right one thing that I must say is this, everyone really did pull together and played a vital part in the rescue and comfort of the lads BUT without a shadow of doubt Carl Windsor was an absolute hero!

Carl was 1st on the scene after witnessing the horrific accident and conducted the initial part of the rescue. When he got there the car was upside down in the ditch and still running, with the possibility of fire Carl was one of them who stayed on the scene and helped get the lads out of the car and away to safety, in my opinion a strength of shear bravery. He managed to keep everyone calm and managed the situation with heroic status. We cannot thank you enough for what you did and I think everyone will agree with this. I'll gladly have you in my rear view mirror on next years trip.

Cheers Michael
