Standard seat weight?

Post by Pete »

Has anyone weighed a standard Mk1b seat?

I'm thinking of getting some new ones with more support, just wondering what kind of weight saving can be had at the same time.

Cheers

IIRC 12kgs each.

By comparison a GRP carbon bucket in the £250 ish range weighs 6-7kgs.

I can relate to that Pete. I had problems with my old seats giving me back problems. They looked and seemed fine so I guessing they were never good in the first place. The corbeaus I replaced them with may not be of the highest quality, but they provide good support and no bad back :thumleft:

It's probably cheaper to go on a diet and lose 6kg yourself.

Well losing 12kgs for both seats might be a tall order.

I was expecting a bit more than 12kgs to be honest, that seems quite reasonable.

The main reason is for more back support though. As you say spudgun, I think they just aren't very supportive as standard. The seats in my car look in mint condition, just not comfortable enough for daily use anymore, or maybe i'm getting old #-o

All those bits of extra weight out the car add up though, there's no chance I could loose 12kgs

mk1a seats are lighter and a different "feel" you could try one for a while. you should be able to pick one up for next to nothing.

I've got a 1a too and agree they have a different feel (better in my opinion).

I'm still wanting a seat that has a bit more support at the sides - the kind of support you get from the chunky style recaro recliners. I'll have to see if I can squeeze one in.

You could try MK3 seats, very comfortable, supportive and grippy on the sides :thumleft: IIRC they slightly lighter than 1b seats

I don't like the look of the Roadster seats. Just my opinion mind

The MKII seats are nice and very comfortable, but a fair amount of work would be needed on the sub-frame/runners to make fit.

Garrick, Olie (OlberJ) has put a set in a Mk1 I think and he said all that needs doing is a slight 'adjustment to one of the bolt holes. :-k

Will have a look for the thread on TB.

I had a set once that I trial fitted as well and had to do slight alteration of 2 holes IIRC, they then just bolted up.
