I have to agree with Kevin..in's post..I'm a member of IMOC, which provides me with all the info I need to fix my motor. I'm not rolling in dough, so can't afford to cough up membership to all the clubs that cater for my chosen mark...my car's a money pit and this is where my spare dosh goes! (that and a wedding next saturday..) However, I am quite enthusiastic and I like shows and socialising...it's just that I don't believe you need to pay to drive to a pub and have a chat with a few guys that own the same motor, except to get a pint. Most my pleasure comes from driving my car (that's what its for, after all!) and this is what I chose to do-I go out on my own or with a couple of mates at the crack of dawn at the weekends for a blast on some quiet roads. I've pm'd a few people who are local but no-one seems to want to do this - maybe the real problem is just general apathy?! All the mark 1's i've seen round here are a bit ropey, so you wouldn't expect their owners to be raring to show them!

while i agree with most of your points I'm actually very pro MK1 Club and don't want to see it dissapear
though actually what to do is beyond me
when i organised the peak district run I made up flyers and put one on the windscreen of every local MK1 I was aware of 20+ not one of them came
Richard Morgan used to send me the contact details of all new Club members in a bid to set up a local group I only ever had two responses one demanding details of where I could get him parts!!! the other actually joined the club hi Brin
you can't make people join you can't make them come to meets/events
I'm as stumped as everyone else as to what to do :?

Not sure the flyers would work since when I was South Central organiser I used to put Mk1 club flyers on every Mk1 I saw and not one turned up to a meet. Although I did get a few calls about people wanting spares which I forwarded to Jinxy. So after a year of near wasted meets I gave up being SC organiser since it seemed hopeless and most of the people who did occasionally come alone where IMOC members.

Back in the day when I had a bit more time on my hands, I was the south east area organiser for the Nissan Turbo Owners Club..they had a similar problem - everyone moaned there wasn't a meet, i set one up, most of them didn't bother going..eventually, we decided to invite other similar clubs along too to get the numbers up..its now turned into the 200sx oc meet instead! Worked though..it was always busy once we were a bit less militant about who showed!

I'm relaxing after the weekend at Tatton Park, which is a big event in the Northwest.
We had fourteen cars on Saturday and fifteen today, plus a potential three new members. Very promising for us.
In a conversation about club stuff in general it was mentioned that the joining (and rejoining) process didn't appear to be clear or easy. The consensus was for a web based application process, by secure credit/debit card or pay pal payment, attendees wanted instant 'like buying on Amazon' not printing off a form and sending it off.
I do not understand the mechanics of how this is done, but I'm sure we could do it if we approached the right person.

Ahh right, Ok, I had one chap tell me he'd attempted to do this but failed, so I thought that it was not available, hence my comments. .
I've had a look on the mk1 web site but I can't find a mention of it. I say this because the Mk1 club web site is still the first hit on google for 'MR2 Mk1', so this looks like were the potential new members are clicking into. The above was comfirmed by conversations I was having with intrested visitors.
Also the visitors to the pitch over the weekend were stopping and copying the web address off the club banner. So i suppose this re-inforces the need for the correct information on a 'flyer'.

But now I know about the pay pal payments I can now pass the info on.

Hopefully the launch of the new website should have all this in hand
