Also i would prefer not to have the IMOC logo on it at all, as the MK1 forum on here can be found via our website link. We want to boost our own identity.

Whilst we still have one....... :(

I know what you mean, but in the end I think that most of the stuff they're breaking was destined for the great scrapyard in the sky anyway, so we're probably not losing any more cars because of it, and at least now there are places we stand some chance of being able to get bits from. Rather than them getting buried under a Fiesta at some nameless scrapyard. Plus I'd rather deal with someone I know than a dodgy artist off ebay.

i think this is the ideal place for people who are breaking cars. it saves members the time and expense of finding a breaker, getting there and paying over the odds. anyway HT did you not do a bit of breaking in the past? could be my memory is not up to it but i seem to recall you selling a few bits.
Back to the flyer why not have a sticky at the top to allow anyone to print a few off as and when they need it.

crazylegs wrote:At a show this weekend it was mentioned to me how few members we have. Nowhere near the number I thought. Now my way of thinking is that if we dont get some more interest the club will gradually shrink to nothing. Some time ago I think a windscreen flyer was suggested. Anyone think this is a good idea? Put one under every mk1 wiper you see in the hope they may be interested.
This is where the artists come in. Something eyecatching with info and meeting dates that can be downloaded and printed off. Nothing huge or too fancy but it may encourage a few new faces or enquiries, What do you all think ? Free membership for the best design ?

I have some MK1 Club member application forms in my glove box given to me by Dorris
one goes under the windscreen wiper of every MK1 I see parked up
I also have a sticker (in the same script as the Twin Cam 16) on my drivers side rear light which says www.mr2mk1club.com
but reality is £21 to be a MK1 Club member or free for all the info you need on the internet, it's not a hard equasion to work out now is it?

#-o Defeated by my colour-blindedness... I knew I had a dark blue one and a black one but couldn't tell the difference between them! (I know, I should've used the colour picker to check!)
I'll sort it out later. :thumleft:

Now that the club mag is far better  Nomore endless pages of writing+ it now has good quality photos it all helps to make it a more enjoyable experience being a club member :D
Work it out, it costs less than 50p a week, i'm sure most people on here can afford that.

No Kev. I'm 27 and definitely get more than my moneys worth back from the Mk1 club every year. I agree with you.

Yup - likewise (though a couple of years younger  ). I've been to nothing at all this year except Silverstone Classic - and have got my moneys worth from that alone. The mag this year has definitely been a good :thumleft: (But given I've had a few articles in there, I may be a bit biased... :) ).

However, it is definitely the case that those that join a club merely for the sake of getting help with a problem will just come on here where, as has been said, they can get free advice.
I'd go so far as to say that given what the Mk1 club section on here now offers, the Mk1 Club has changed in that it now appears to be more for the social and event side than it is for the technical. In that respect, someone who is only after technical advice for their car is unlikely to join the Mk1 Club... All IMO, of course.

I like the new mag and have said so several times, but then i'm a paid up member from even before i got my first MK1
so its not me you need to impress is it, its the as yet unrecruited members
if i had the answer for you i would let you know
but I have to say that I did offer the opinion before this forum began some 3 years ago that the very thing that the club needed (i.e. a live forum) could well be what kills the old style club off
it seems to be a sign of progress :?

I do my bit (I know some of you do much much more) but the horse could be dead its just knowing when to stop flogging it :?

I'd be too embarassed to go to a club meet... my car's got alloys off a Rover. #-o Can't afford to replace them yet!

club meets are not concours competitions
get to know you local members you could just get pointed in the direction of some tasty alloys for the right money, if not you should just be accepted as the guy with rover alloys on his MK1

I wouldn't let that stop you, the fact is you'd be arriving in a Mk1 to a meet!
I've found out the people at club meets would welcome you what ever you drive.
You'll gain more insight by attending one meeting than a week of posting or searching on the 'tinernet... (IMO)

( BTW, if you go on a rainy day, chances are all the 'concourse' ones will be locked away in the garage.... )

ben just come along. there are a good few from around your way that go to the SE meets. all are welcome whatever your car is like, none of us have that neck problem. you know the one some people have that sticks your nose in the air.
the next one we will be at is the hampshire pageant of motoring. well worth a look ,google it is the easiest way, the SE mk1 club will be there all weekend. just pop in and say hello if you dont feel you want your car with the rest. we are the south east mk1 club , ANY mk1 is welcome.

Yup. My first meet I turned up in a Rover (though this was before I bought my Mk1 and I went to learn more about them!) and my most recent event I also turned up in a Rover... (though I did park in the public car park, and it was at Silverstone... so it wasn't very obvious... ;) ) so you're still a few steps better than some of us!
