[Mk2] [NA] Definitive answer...... CAT & exhausts

Post by No_more_GT4 »

Aft'noon guys & gals,
I have a 1995 UK Rev 3 N/A. It currently has an aftermarket exhaust on it which has replaced the original CAT.

My MOT is looming up on me (22nd July) & obviously I'll be needing a CAT for it to pass the emissions test.

I'm looking to replace the current aftermarket exhaust with an original item & to have the CAT re fitted too.

Now my question to you is this:

Can any N/A Rev exhaust (1 or 2) & CAT fit on my Rev 3 :?: :-k

I'm having no luck in finding a Rev 3 CAT & exhaust, so if needs be, will an exhaust & CAT from a rev 1 or 2 fit :?: :thumleft:

Thanks in advance guys :thumleft:

think you're easiest solution would just to buy a cat and swap it for the MOT, japspec sell new ones. If i remember right some of the rev 1 exhausts are different the later ones

If I were to buy just the CAT, it wouldn't fit on the exhaust that's on there at the moment though  .

I want to change the current exhaust for a stock item anyway as it's too loud for my liking.

I can't see anywhere for the CAT to go on my car with the current exhaust on there :? or am I just being stupid :?:

I can't believe that over 70 members have viewed this post & I've only had one reply (thank you PCP :D ) Isn't changing the exhaust one of the first things that gets modded :)

Nah - that's me viewing it 65 times

The cat goes where the downpipe is doesn't it? I'm sure you know that but I wondered why the pic is of the end can. :-k

AFAIK the cat should go between the downpipe and the backbox, the design of your exhaust is completely different to standard and usual aftermarket exhausts, where your exhaust joins to the downpipe there should usually be a cat replacement pipe then a bend in the pipework back towards the centre of the car, there was a difference (100mm i think) in cat sizes in some revs, but i'm not sure if the change was taken up in the downpipe or backbox, hope this helps

Yeah, doesn't the CAT go here :-k :

I'm pretty sure the exhaust in the pic is a universal type exhaust as the exhaust's I've seen in the forum allow space sor a deCAT or CAT to be fitted.

Ok, Just spoken to Jamie over at Jap Spec Performance & he confirmed for me that any CAT & exhaust from a 3SGE engined MR2 will indeed fit :thumleft:
