How will the hammering on of a bigger socket work if the lock nut is round? Does hammering a socket over actually reshape the circular lock nut?

Basically, find a socket that slides over the locking nut, then select the next size down and hammer it over the nut. The "sharp" splines on the inside of the socket will "cut" into the locking nut and provide the drive needed to undo the nut.

It's the most simple and cost effective way of doing it.

loosen all 4 other wheel nuts
vehicle in the air
large mash hammer and a thick block of wood
put the wood over the rim and bash it evenly round the rim bash hard
loosen the alloy around the hub and wheel stud
smack the wheel nut a good few times with a hammer shock the threads
get a similar wheel stud and weld it all the way round onto the locking nut making sure you get good penetration with the welds

keep repeating until it becomes loose

the McGrd locking wheel nuts will not come off by bashing a socket over there too hard

It will loosen its just been stubborn

I have had to cut a wheel off on a Clio once the LWN was set 3" deep I couldn't get nowt on it,

Honest you will be fine,

just take your time

Put loads of gaffa tape round the wheel to eliminate light paint damage looks pretty fooked already,

The Mcgard are jut too hard for the multi hex socket to bite into

I've given up on the welding. My welder is crap and I can't weld to save my life. I might have to call someone out ](*,) :(

How do these work for removing any type of lock nut keys mate?

They are reverse threaded so when you undo them they tighten on to the nut
Ill post it you and if it works pay me if it doesn't post it back ?
or even if it does work and you don't want it post it back?

I don't reckon they will fit with the 'tuner' style nuts on that wheel. Ive seen those tools and the gap between the nut and the wheel looks far too narrow...

Success!!!! The hammering on a socket trick worked!!! I just about managed to fit a 22 size socket over the nut and inthe wheel hole. A block of wood and lots of hammering and hey presto it unscrewed!

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and thanks to the chap that has posted me the remover set. I've pm'd you about that. Sorry you went to the hassle of sending them when I got it out in the end ](*,)

Now I can have 4 matching wheels on the caar finally :thumleft:
