[All] [Generic] * MPG with the 3.0 V6 conversion...

Post by gordy.r »

Just wondering what kind of mpg people with the 3.0 litre V6 conversion were getting in their mk2's?

Any comments appreciated...

Thanks

From what i remember peeps saying, it was not as good as the 2.0 N/A's but better than the tubbies. All depends on how you drive em really. If i drive off boost on mine (very hard to do all the time!) it gives a very good return. :thumleft:

Yeah I used to get (about) 300 miles to the tank on motorways with my tubby, but I was wondering if the V6 would be any better?

On the motorways its gotta be better, even if only by a little. 3.0l would just be a great cruising engine at high speeds. I could just imagine feathering the throttle and it would keep it at 80mph+ all day.

Hi mate, normal driving I get around 26-30 mpg, motorway driving your looking at mid 30's maybe alittle more. Flogging it around 11-12 mpg, thats with the supercharger on so the consumption will be better on a n/a set up. I'm going stand alone soon so the figs should change. I will let you know how that effects the mpg.

Hey there,

Thanks for those figures. If those are the figures with the supercharger then I think you may have made up my mind for me!!! haha

I have always fancied going for this conversion but after I started modding my tubby I didn't see the point.
All in, how much did the conversion cost you, and did you get the SC done at the same time?

Any advice greatly recieved, ta! 8)

Have a look at this link mate. Paul Woods is the man to speak to about prices/options etc. As for a supercharger, they are like finding hens teeth in rocking horse poo. Toyota have stopped making them, there is talk of developing a unit based on a more readily available supercharger. So watch this space on that.

Would you know what your co2 emsssions are ?

Reason I ask is because our tax here is going to be rated on co2 and just want to see what band it would fall into.

TIA

Ive got a v6 in mine now and I get much better mpg on the motorway than my old NA engine. As for town driving it is slightly better than the NA unless you put your foot down then its probably the same as a turbo.
Reason its so good is the torque, it needs no effort to get it off the mark.

This will ONLY affect cars manufactured POST 2001 so this is not a factor and even if it was it comes into affect in 2011 so a few years first.

But what sort of mpg do you get (or mileage from a full tank)?
I've heard of V6 owners stating that it's more economical than their old 3S-GE. But on saying that, there's loads of people with 3S-GEs only getting 25mpg :-k

I'm interested in the V6, but as I get around 30-31mpg consistantly, then I don't want to drop to 25mpg when it's around £1.20 a litre #-o

owners dont go v6 for fuel economy reasons, although having said that when they are driven gently they are returning at least 25mpg...however when driven hard you can expect turbo mileage,it is a 3.0ltr after all.

If you want both power and economy why not run an LPG kit on it,best of both worlds then... 50p a litre :thumleft:

If you use a Stand Alone ECU you can get it remapped to be quite frugal. One of our customers got 360 miles on a tank when he went to Le Mans.

I got 300 miles on one tank with standard ecu sticking to 80-90 all the way. Was very impressed. As Paul said you dont get them for economy though mainly because they make such a lovely noise any thoughts of saving petrol go out the window. :D

Agree, and I'd still be interested if it's only a 'little bit worse', wouldn't want one if it drank twice as much (which of course it doesn't :) )
