[Mk2] [Generic] Tinted rear lights?

Post by Rhiannan »

I have to replace my rear lights and also my front indicators, since I have to do it anyway I'm considering replacing them the tinted blacked out versions.

I've found the black front indicators, but the only black rear lights I've seen are lexus style ones which I don't really like!

Anyone who has picks of their car with tinted black rear lights?
Where did you get them?

Thanks :thumleft:

Chavs do it........ hmmm first time I have been called a chav

There you go picture of rear tinted lights, done by painting them with thin coats of gloss black. Never had any problems with the 'old bill', local copper has seen them multitude of times and really likes the look of the car. PS Number plate has since been modified to sit straight instead of that curious angle.

See I think that looks great :thumleft: I have black enkei wheels too so it would look super black

i've found smoked front indicators and side repeaters so I just need tinted rear lights. Can you buy them already black or is they only way you can do it by tinting them yourself?

I saw some black ones for sale somewhere...here \/\/\/

but since they are lexus style I'm wary because I don't want to have cheesy lexus lights!! I was hoping someone on here would have bought them and could show me what they look like on.
I have rev 3 lights by the way, I need to replace anyway as someone hit and runned the back of my car :( so I'm thinking of replacing with tinted ones.

Ughhhh *shudder* - tint a genuine Toyota set if you want tinted lights, don't get those god awful things!
(Use acrylic lacquer too, NOT paint! paint will harm light output too much, not immediately obvious, but once visibility is mildly reduced (heavy rain/fog etc) they will become next to useless)

Is it easy to tint them yourself? Just buy the spray and away you go?? \:D/

Does it go on the inside?

I would rather have proper rev 3 ones tinted as I always think lexus lights are cheeeeesy.

Pretty much that straightforward yeah.
Search eBay for tail light tint and loads will pop up for around a tenner delivered, I tinted my orange indicators using red spray, looks neater.
Just use light coats and allowing to dry inbetween (to avoid runs) and then leave over night in an airing cupboard to dry nicely. I also used some polish after 72 hours to make them a bit shinier, although it does cut a layer or 2 off.

PS, spray the outside, not the inside.

Hi Rhiannan,

Hopefully these will turn you to the dark "chavvy" side. 8) 8)

Did mine myself and might give them another coat before they are laquered. Only other tip I can give other than those below is to put the can in warm (not hot) water before you spray and you will need at least six coats even though the can says 2 should do it. If you do want a perfect finish though get a professional to do it or wait for a set to come up on ebay.

They look excellent 8)

I'm quite wary of doing it myself coz I don't want to screw it up and have a bad finish. I'll see if any come up already done, I thought there would be a place that sold them new already smoked so I've been surprised that there isn't :o

Pop into a local bodyshop and ask if they'll tint them for beer tokens. (You may need to supply the acrylic)
