[Mk2] [Turbo] back section of Legalis R exhaust blowing

Post by chum_2000_uk »

Hi guys,

Already tried searching for answers but I can't really find the information I'm looking for :-k

I have a Fujitsubo Legalis R exhaust and the pipe that is between the back box and the middle flexi section has rusted through on the bend and is blowing through a couple of holes that are maybe a centimetre or so each - perhaps a little bigger.

I have had a look at the standard MK2 turbo exhaust in the BGB and from what I can make out, it looks like the standard exhaust doesn't have a seperate section like the Legalis R? With the standard exhaust it looks as though the section which goes over the rear crossmember is all part of the middle flexi-section, is this correct?

As I say, on the Legalis R there is a small section of pipe that attaches to the back box pipe, bends round and straightens over the crossmember to attach to the mid section of pipe (flexi section). It looks to follow pretty much the same route as a standard exhaust, but just with that extra section from back box over the crossmember. I can draw a diagram if required to confirm which bit of exhaust is blowing.

Any ideas where I can get this rear section of pipe that I need? I believe the bore of the pipe is wider than standard exhaust (3" IIRC). Is this a Fujitsubo only part or are there other companies that do this same section of exhaust that will fit?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Cheers guys

I would have thought only fujitsubo would be the only people that make them, your best bet is to take it to a exhaust specialist place and ask them to weld it up, either that or take it off and take it to a metal fab and they should patch it u

what about getting a custom exhaust place to make the section? There must be other people on the forums here that have had mild steel aftermarket exhausts that have rusted through in certain sections. What have you guys done?

cheers guys

ok just went to longlife and they quoted £120 just for this small back section of exhaust and only in 2.5"..... for the same 3" section they wanted well over £200

Anyone got any better ideas for me?

try a different company :)

Just try a normal tyre and exhaust place. I guess its not SS if its rusted so most of these places will be able to do it. If the flexi needs replacing a new flexi can be bought for £15 or something, then just ask them to weld it in for you.

your right, its not stainless steel but I dont really see what an exhaust place can really do with the pipe. See the picture below (sorry about my terrible paint skills! :))

The red blob shows where the holes are, right on the bend. As you can see from the picture it is on the section that goes over the crossmember, and is a totally different section of exhaust to the mid section with flexi:

Surely just any old exhaust place as you have suggested wouldn't simply be able to make up a bit of mild steel exhaust to fit here? And I'm not sure it can just be welded as the pipe is pretty rusted around the area with the holes. What you think mrfil13?

Really appreciate the help :thumleft:

Can't see why not if they are skilled, they would just cut out the rotten section and weld some fresh pipe in. As its mild steel they should be able to bend it easier than SS.

If its not rotten all the way around the pipe, just say a small section they maybe able to just patch it up.

If you have no luck at garages maybe head up to your local industrial estate, should be someone there that would be able to do it, may need you to remove the pipe and take it to them though.

Ive just bought a Dep2 regular, where the y section goes into the rear back box silencers there's a big ish hole, on the flexi section the flexi needs replacing and about 2inch after the flexi is abit dead. Just given it to my brothers friend who works in a metal fab place, he just i'll sort it :thumleft:

somewhere will be able to replace the small section where the rust is. take it to a small exhaust garage and they will do it for £30 - £40. My old Merc had the silencer cut out and a bit of pipe fabricated and welded to replace it (wasnt just straight had funny angles) and then the Cat cut out and a pipe welded inplace for only £45 :thumleft:

longlife are rip-off. I got a quote for a new stainless flexi to be welded to my HKS Turbo  I replied "how much?! i could nearly buy a whole new system for that!" and then the rude guy (maybe Rob) at the cardiff branch says "we make custom exhausts. You want something cheaper? i've a gearknob lying around here, you wanna buy that?" i said "feck off" and hung up

I bought a Berk Technology exhaust from GTSChris in the end. well worth it :thumleft:

I know.... I'ne never really liked Longlife as a company. Makes me wonder how so many chavs can afford stupid exhaust systems from them for their saxos etc.

maybe there is a special chav discount promotion code you can enter on the website
