Wiper delay modification

Post by Braddyboy »

Hi,

In [www.imoc.co.uk Forum Index -> Knowledge Base -> MR2 Mk1 Articles -> Exterior ] I've seen the how to guid for making your MK1 intermittent wipers delay adjustable. I've thought about doing this mod myself so having seen it's possible is a great start.

I was wondering if there was any way to modify the wiper switch/cannibalise a headlight switch so that the variable control could be in the same place as the dashboard dimmer is? I've noticed that my dashboard has a cutout-able section in the same place on the wiper side, so I'm assuming the left-hand drive models have the controls reversed.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When I originally looked into making the wiper delay variable my plan was to try and utilise the slot and an old light dimmer to do it.
I found that it wasn't really feasible for a couple of reasons. The wiper switch is quite long, by the time it is spaced back far enough to allow the dimmer section to be inserted it's hard up against the back of the instrument housing, also the resistance of the dimmer is to low to allow a reasonable delay variation.
Trying to source a suitable potentiometer to fit on the shaft proved to be next to impossible, I'm not saying that it can't be done, everything is possible given enough time, effort and money :D it just wasn't practical IMHO.
So I decided to go the separate potentiometer route as it was much more easier to do, it's fairly unobtrusive and can be positioned virtually anywhere you want.
Any other queries about the mod , feel free to ask
