Hello mate

I got one of the ssk153 kits for my Mk2.

Don't know what the stock ride was like, as my car had awful lowered springs on.

However, the red Koni springs are slightly lowered

(around 20mm I think) and the springs aren't all that good.

Most people seem to prefer swapping them with some eibach pro line

(or was it sportline.

.

?)

But, buying the ssk153 kit is cheaper than buying shocks individually.

I have actually put some rev1 springs on my car, which seem to be pretty comfy for the manky Surrey highways.

However, handling is also about the shocks.

The koni's seem good, but again my old ones

(which I got with the rev1 springs) were knackered, to the point where the rear wheels would just bobble instead of putting the power down.

I found when set to maximum soft the Konis were a bit bouncy too.

So I've got them 1/3rd front 1/2 rear, which seems OK.

Setting them to full does make the car thump over bumps, whereas with my settings above it tends to roll with the blows a bit more.

As an alternative, I did recall JeffD selling a complete KYB strut kit

(shock and bottom bit basically

- not spring or topmount) for around

£60.

this has got to be a bargain IMO.

He's not an affiliate, so don't contact him on here

- go direct.

Having just looked at his site, I can't see the front ones tbh, so maybe this isn't such a good option

Finally, whilst I'm here, a couple of points about fitting Konis

- use some threadlock on the nut that holds them in.

mine works loose, and the clunking annoyes me.

- try and get hold of a pin wrench

(u-shaped, with two pins facing down)

you need this to tighten the Koni nut, and prevent the problem above.

Koni didn't

opt for the

"traditional" shaped nut, but instead use a circular one with 2 holes in.
