[Mk2] [Turbo] converting a rev 3 to rev 2!

Anyone done this? i pressume they must have, reason i ask, is i think the rev2's look better than the rev3's, well the back lights and spoiler etc, dont know how else they differ visually?

Yes old school is cool. You watch in a few years everybody will be banging on about how cool unmodified/ lightly modified examples of rev1/2 are, they'll be as rare as hen's you know whats and everybody will be after them like crazy

You can't beat the rev1/2 rear lights in my view. Not so sure about the spoiler but then there's an easy fix for that if you car to look at my avatar....

Well I guess we're all entitled to our opinions.... even if they are wrong!
It's just a personal thing Fozzy but I've got to disagree with you! Not sure about the spoilers but light cluster wise I reckon the earlier versions are simply miles nicer... make 'em look wider and lower and thus sportier.
It's all subjective though. How about a poll?

I personally wouldn't stick anything Rev2 on a Rev3. There have been a few Rev3s with rev2 spoilers on them for sale, and everyone is always suspicious about them and avoids them. If you want the Rev2 look, buy one.

Suspicions could always be alaid by the chassis and engine no's. and receipts for the rev2 bits surely... Just a question of paperwork I'd have thought.
Bill, the only other external differences as far as I know are the colour coded sills, spats and front splitter (deeper from rev2) on the rev3 cars and the larger wheels on rev2s and onwards.
If you like the mods do 'em. Just keep all the paperwork and maybe even before, during and after pics for those 'suspicious' minds if you sell.

i have a rev 2 but prefer the rev3 rear lights.

If your going down this route then keep all the re3 parts you take off just in case you sell it, that way the new owner can make it back to a rev3 without spending alot more making it back into a rev3.

Moding a car is all about personal preferance, not what other people think.

If everyone thought the same about different mods then we would all be driving round in the same car.

Lots of bods have replaced the rearlights on rev 2s for the rev 3 lights at some expense. Why? They don't look better just different and are merely an accepted mod but in no way an improvement except in some peculiar aesthetic way maybe to some people, I was almost tempted to do it but thought sod it I actually prefer the square lights. Maybe if the rev 4 had changed to triangular lights then everybody would have been wanting those lights.

Thats it i think you've hit the nail on the head there, i also think i may have been mistaking the later rev 4+, spoilers for rev 3 spoilers, i'll have to do a bit more research

Nah sorry I much prefer the look of the rev 3 in every way. Looks like a modern car but rev 1/2's are too dated.

As I said... horses for courses. Lamborghini Muiras are dated, Ferrari Dinos are dated. Still gorgeous though and you dont see owners updating them. It's each to their own. My reply was in response to Bill who started by saying he prefered the older look and I still see no reason not to mod to replicate this if he likes it providing he keeps receipts and the original bits...
Maybe we should have a poll? Or has there been one?

Yes, I agree, never been a fan of the rev3 & above back end, looks a bit too girlie for me.
I have retro fitted rev1/2 lights to my rev3 & couldn't be happeir.

I think if you change one part, e.g. the clusters then you have to change everything -like the spoiler etc. otherwise it just looks a bit funny. I think it's the centre panels on rev 3+ that I don't like rather than the lights themselves.

Rev 2 all the way for me. Particularly the 3 piece spoiler, I think it's the only one out of the lot which looks like it was actually designed to be a part of the car and finishes off the back curves of the body nicely. I believe we're largely in the minority prefering the look of rev 1/2's though.

Funny enough just about all the MK2's I see are either rev 1's or 2's -hardly ever see anything else. May just be the parts of the country I drive around?

Think from memory there were many more rev1 and 2s built and sold than the later revs...
If your unsure about the best spoiler just take it off anyway and do without. I've never noticed the difference on the road in my n/a. Maybe different for a tubby but you'd have to be traveling at way over our British limits to feel the difference I reckon. Personal opinion I know but I much prefer the look of mine without it....

I'd say its not so much the design of the lights themselves, but rather the black honey combe centre section on the Rev 1/2's which make them looked a bit dated compared to the smooth body coloured panel on the Rev 3+

I do prefer the Rev II 3 piece spoiler out of the range though, especially compared to the high level one from the Rev5's.

I prefer the rev2 lights, but I tinted mine so I'm not sure whihc catagory I fit in

I like the rev2 3 piece spoiler but I replaced the middle with an Autopista which I think finshed off the rear much better now (especially as I have Rogue Rear Spats which chunk up the rear )

I don't think the squarer lights of the rev 1/2 look dated, just that the rev3 look like they're tryin too hard to be a bit different.



Does that a55 look dated??
