[Mk2] [Turbo] excess material from intercooler?

Post by will777 »

Just wandered if anybody has had trouble with this? my engine has been rebuilt with a brand new intercooler and on the first start up it was running fine untill what sounded like a foreign object rattling down the pipes and into the bore, while it hasnt done a great deal of damage its still going to cost a new head gasket and labour, all the parts were washed before rebuild so im thinking the only place it could be from is the intercooler?

usual rebuild really, forged pistons etc nothing out the ordinary or hat would explain where the foreign object came from.

It'd be unlikey for something to make its way back up from the standard intercooler to the intake side. At full boost / redline though there is a lot of air flowing through the intercooler into the engine.

If the object got into the engine, I'd be very carefully inspecting the turbo intake and exhaust turbines, valves, bores, head for any damage.
