[Mk2] [Turbo] Red or green stuff

Post by The Morris »

For general road use. I thought green would be ok but they recommend red for over 250 bhp. Only bit i dont like is that they reckon it takes 1000 miles to bed them in. Thats about 6 months for me

IIRC youll need green stuff for fast road use, the reds take a bit to heat up and brake better when hot, ideal for the track, a mate tried them on an old escort and found the brakes to be rubbish unless he was constantly hammering them.

Depends on how you drive really!!! Out of the two I would go for Redstuff (drive a little bit harder), greenstuff is mainly for hot hatches and small cars like clios, pugs, saxos etc. Reds are for slighty heavier vehicles. Evos scoobys etc. I have Redstuffs on one of my MK3 Supras which only comes out on special occasions and work fine from cold. On my tubby though got potterfields, dusty but amazing performance. Ignore horsepower figures, this is usually just a gudeline because usually if you got more power then u drive at higher speeds. Its all about the weight, if your car ways a tonne then a tonne is what youre trying to stop regardless of wether it has 10bhp or 1000bhp. Whats heavier a tonne of feathers or a tonne of bricks...??? Exactly!!! buy on how u drive

I've got Greenstuff on the front, I find them no better then the stock pads. They also kick out loads of brake dust which is a pain in the bottom.

I use red stuff, there great pads, do wear a little faster than others, but at 50quid for a front pair you cant really moan. great stopping power for the money. \:D/

I've got yellow stuff pad on mine. Ment to be track pads but bite well from cold - properly brutal when warm.

Agree. Stock pads IMO work the best. They do wear quicker (as you'd expect)

I run at the track allot and unless I'm on a full force road course I can never get the enough heat generated in them, and in town they will squeek a little. I had red and green... I say stock.

Just chipping in,

About 7-8 months ago I was looking for uprated pads and disks and none of the suppliers really recommended any of the EBC stuff. Not my oppinion -just what I was told at the time.

...I went Carbotech and stock disks and they're superb though a little noisy when cold.
