Fuel pump

Post by Stuart Davidson »

Anyone got any ideas to save me some work? I finally got my car delivered back from being painted (which only took about four months!) and the fuel pump doesn't appear to be pumping. I have put the service wire in etc and have 12 volts at the last connector under the centre console. I just wondered if there is any way of freeing off the pump with air via the discharge and return line or something? I also thought maybe if the pump is totally gone, would it not have blown the fuse? I know the car was jacked up at the back end for a while to do the arches. Thanks.

hi, its a bit of a nasty job to change the pump over. try running a direct feed to the pump from the live in the dash, say radio or fag lighter or just off the battery. a heavy bash with a hammer to the tank can sometimes free them up. i am not sure of the pump action so cant say if a reverse blow would help. you must remember the pump only pumps when the engine cranks it may just be a bad connection at the ecu or relay. take the connector apart thats in the boot and clean it up with a bit of contact cleaner ,do the same with the ecu plugs. good luck .

Fuel pump

Thanks Kev, I definately have 12v at the last connector under the centre console with the service link wire in, which by-passes everthing which should allow the pump to run to pressure up the fuel system. I have a spare tank and pump that I have checked, so it looks like I'll be lying under the car wrestling with the tank over xmas then!

its the little rubber pipes at the front that are btards. it helps if you can have 2 people and something the right height to rest the tank on. good luck.
