You mean slotted discs? To be honest stock discs are pretty good, drilled/grooved ones like EBC look nice but I think you'll find oppinion is devided on the performance value of these...

For your money your better off with braided lines, decent fluid, and some quality pads :thumleft:

Agree with GReddy Matt, grooved discs will just wear your pads quicker.

Holed disks are a waste of time - theyre use these days is purely cosmetic - the holes are meant to prevent the pads lifting away from the disks because of "outgassing" (gases formed by the pad). Modern brake disk material doesnt contain the material that causes this.

Worse still, most cheap disks have the holes drilled into them rather than cast which weakens the discs an makes them prone to cracking.

Grooved disks eat your pads faster and meant to prevent glazing of the pads - again its more of a case of style over function.

It doesnt recommend either grooved or drilled disks...and for that matter...after market pads. All over priced and unecessary IMO too :-)

If your SW20 brakes are not stopping you fast enough then there is something wrong with them - standard brakes are superb - Ive braked so hard I thre my friend completely forward until he was braced against the seat belt right out of his seat! LOL :-) Check the operation of them first including whether you need a fluid change before you go wasting hundreds of pounds on stuff you dont need. IMHO

Stock REV3 brakes are awsome, If you have TRC the EBD is good too. :thumleft:

At the most I would use Carbotech pads the stock disks are more than capable.

I wouldn't go near drilled or spotted disc (ie ebc)

this was one of my spoon discs after half a trackday

plain discs are fine. Spend your money on uprated pads.

If you're desperate to blow some money on discs, look for some discs with curved internal cooling vanes or fully floating discs.

I'm just about to overhaul my brakes and was planning on going with drilled and grooved disks but after reading this I think I'll stick with stock and just change the hoses for braided ones.

One thing that did appeal about the disks I was looking at (Ebay specials  ) was that they were anodised and wont go rusty. If there's one thing that makes your wheels looks untidy it's rusy disks. Is there a way of stopping this happening with the standard disks?

I think "lower"s pic illustrates exactly the point I was making about drilled disks - yikes!!

Ebay disks are cheap for a reason! ;-')

try a track day with stock pads, you'll soon change your mind
160mph generates a LOT of heat when trying to slow down ,less than 1 lap and my pedal had gone to mush
and they are working fine BTW all calipers checked before the trackday and brake fluid was less than 6 months old dot5.1

but for normal/spirited road driving ,good working stock brakes are ok ,unless you start doing multiple stops from illegal speeds
