[Mk2] [Generic] Remove rust off under strut suspension brace; treat? powder coat?

Post by Harry »

Got a Toms under lowest suspension brace arm about the length of ones arm and about an inch thick circular, quite light weight, and would like to have it brought back to bear metal then possible powder coated but do not want to spend a fortune but want it new; as in remove all current flaking paint and surface rust then take action; hammerite or powder coat but not sure on costs/procedure? Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance! :+:

I find powder coating generally very cheap, I got four split rim centres blasted and powder coated for £15 per wheel at Metal Magic in Barnsley.

Metal Magic are wheel specialists really, there are loads of companies that just do powder coating, I feel this is your best option as it will hold its finish much better than other methods. :thumleft:

I made the mistake of stripping the paint on the 1st set I had done as there was no difference in price when I didn't strip the 2nd set. I think this is because I had stripped them but they need a really good starting point before coating, so even though they were stripped they still needed shot blasting.

If I were you I'd take it along as is, before any hard work has taken place and see what they say, but the process is very cheap.

A local powder coating place which didn't do shot blasting said they would coat them me for a fiver a wheel but the place I went did both for not much more so I went with them.

There are some really cool finishes too, will try and get a photo of my Advans that have been done in Smoked Chrome, they look really good! :thumleft:
