[Mk2] [Generic] Brighter Headlight Solution Solved...and for under £20!

Post by KrisMoyse »

Hey guys,

Some of you may remember a thread I started a few months back regarding making my head lights brighter on the cheap

(It's here is you don't remember: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... highlight=)

Well I went down to Halfords and picked up these:

Image

Halfords 'Super Brilliance Blue' Bulbs.

  • Completely road legal
    A LOT brighter
Look great, got a nice subtle blue tint to the white light
Only cost about £15, buy 1 get 1 free!

Yes Raybrigs are great, *get a set of copies* for only £40 inc shipping from the USA but for modding on the cheap, these are perfectly good.

Besides, when are you gonna see those nice clear lenses? You don't leave your car with the pop ups up do you?

So literally all you want is something brighter and crisper and these are perfect.

A very worthwhile mod, I recommend getting them before the BOGOF offer ends.

They are bulb no. 472SBB

*Note* The BOGOF offer does NOT stand if you are buying at TRADE price. You're better off not using your trade card (unless you get 20% discount like I did he he)

I bought some of these a few days ago for my shiney new raybrigs.
I have the 50% halfords bulbs in now - not the blue but white and they are awesome...just want a more "HID" look

Good find, although you can get a pair of Osram Nightbreaker H4 bulbs for just £23.99.

They are supposed to be +90% brighter and 10% whiter than standard H4 bulbs.

Might give them a go, see if they're anywhere near as good as my old HIDs...

For £40 I would rather buy PIAA bulbs, by far the best I have ever used

As requested matey, they're not Raybrigs but do the same job...clear crystal lenses (personally I'd go for the bottom link):

They arent raybrigs [-X and are no good for the uk... the beams would bend the wrong way with them being from the states. Look like cheap crap to me.

I've got Raybrigs on mine and there fantastic, There's a guy on ebay from japan who has them every so often.

This is the guy http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZninaoec If you send him a message asking if hes got any raybrig lights for sale for the mr2 he will let you know and tell you the time there due to be listed.

I think he charges 14.99 plus 15 quid postage for the pair.

Genuine raybrigs and he even leaves the bulbs in :thumleft:

Tbh the bulbs will make just as much of a difference as clear plastic lenses, if not more.

How do you know that then leeroy?

I've got a pic of mine with 1 raybrig fitted and 1 standard lens fitted.... with the lights on, Both same bulbs, It made more of a difference changing the lenses than changing the bulbs on mine, I must have a special car.

Oh and there not plastic

No dis but pics mean bu88er all. I changed bulbs as my 1st upgrade, then the lenses to Raybrigs. The biggest improvement out of the 2 was the bulbs on my car, yes the Raybrigs made the light a bit brighter but not masses. If you went from stock lenses and stock bulbs to Raybrig lenses and bulbs yes you'd see a big improvement. Its possible your glass lenses were cloudy inside, mine were very clear.

Spittinflames wrote:Oh and there not plastic

If they're not plastic what are they, they're deffo not glass  My 'Raybrigs' are perspex/plexiglass - same thing. I paid a lot more than £40 too #-o

Raybrigs come in both clear and blue tinted lenses, which you probably knew.
