Hi again all,

Almost sold my 2 but didn't!! Now I need some advice if poss?

The clutch is slipping on my Tubby and I want to replace with something that is drivable everyday but can handle upto 300bhp as I have a few more mods planned for next year.

Also, I am thinking that I may as well change the flywheel to a light weight version while the clutch is being worked on, looking at the Fidanza flywheels.

So my questions are, which clutch should I go for, is the flywheel a good investment and where is best to buy?

RPS are highly rated as are standard, from Mr T, clutches for 300bhp.

I'm very interested in people's opinions on Fidanza flywheels. Are they really worth doing on a daily road car for example? I understand the theoretical benefits, but what's the reality on a 280bhp ish tubby?

Yeh the RPS comes highly recommended from many and is very streetable at 324 ft.lbs rating. I don't have one myself but this is what I hear, see what Tom says :lol:

A lightweight flywheel is a nice thing to have, allows the car to rev more freely, easier/quicker to heal and toe, smoother through the gears as the revs don't drop so quickly, less strain on the transmission - less wear and bound to free up a couple of extra horses...

If I didn't have one already I'd get one, and my car is a daily driver 8)

Cheers, Leeroy. I need a new clutch at some point as mine slips a little on full throttle changes, so it would make sense to do the flywheel.

Just to say mine is an Ogura clutch and flywheel so I don't have a Fidanza, but the principle is the same :D

I've got the RPS Max Street/Fidanza combo - very nice indeed. Very driveable and slips well, but grabs and holds well for launches. It's heavier than stock (or so I believe) but I've not tried a stock one so I don't know - it had a twin-plate OS Giken on there to start with.

I got an exedy clutch nothing special but is fabulous. Im using a HKS flywheel....the revs fly up v quickly :)

I bought it 2nd hand with 2k miles on it for £400, they're actually no more than that new now from Japan but that excludes all the shipping costs inc., VAT etc so I'd expect to pay at least £500 unless you're lucky with the import. Rated to 400ps, very on/off but still a single plate (organic) so just about daily drivable. Good thing is each flywheel is specifically designed for each clutch and vehicle model.

I got an RPS street max 6 puck clutch, rated at 399bhp I recall

it is definitely heavier than standard! the spring is probably 33% to 50% stiffer to push down.

there amount of slip is reduced as well - so it does appear grabby to the uninitiated.

in fact everyone who drives my car now stalls it instantly (myself included).

But a bit of practice has overcome this, and I'd still say its drivable daily, although you will end up with your left leg wider than your right.

unsurprisingly,it's very good at getting the power down when you want it.

Stock Toyota rev3 /ST205 = AISIN brand clutch. It is good for 300+ ft lb if you don't try and dump the xxxx out of it >> drag style. Any clutch will wear quick if you subject it to abuse ;)

As a daily drive the stock unit is hard to beat. 300 /320 torque won't cause the clutch to slip on the move unless you overheat it...

Update for you.....

Had the 324lb ft RPS clutch and fidanza flywheel put on at the weekend.

Flywheel is great, really makes a nice difference if you like healing and toeing on your down changes. Once you are used to it its really easy to get a nice smooth downchange so I would defo recomend it.

Took my old OEM clutch off whilst we were there and stuck on the rps clutch. In terms of stiffness I wouldnt say I can tell the difference between the new RPS one and the old one so if you are after driveability then i would really recomend this clutch. In fact now that the release bearing has been greased properly I almost think my clutch is lighter now than it was :shock:

Just one word of warnign though. Once the clutch was fitted I couldnt get the car into gear as the clutch wouldn't disengage properly. In the end the clutch pedal had to be adjusted to its greatest extend in order to get the clutch to come apart and allow me to select a gear. As a consequence my bite point is nearly on the floor. Not really a problem and im already getting used to it but if you like a high bite point then this clutch is definately not for you :thumleft:

Mine is on order, Flywheel too, hope to get em fitted next week and will post my feelings when I have the new toys in place and tested!!

I have the RPS clutch and I think it's excellent..

To pick up on what tomwoodis was saying about the bite-point, yes it's lower, and you'll have to bleed through the clutch properly and adjust it for maximum height off the floor, but also you could fit the www.gtschris.com longer throw rod that sits in the slave cylinder. This resolves that issue and is only a few quid.

I've got one but never bothered fitting it, as I've got used to it now and it's 100% perfect for me and I'd recommend it in a flash. I've also driven a car with the fidanza flywheel and that's also got my recommendation. Exactly what's said above - more response, and better heel'n'toe potential.

Just do it, you'll not regret it! Oh - got mine from TB too, no problems there!

Excellent info guys :thumleft:

I think for my needs (16-17psi + breathing mods) a standard clutch will do me fine along with a Fidanza flywheel for a more sporty delivery - well it would be a shame not to when changing the clutch!

I take it £240 inc VAT is about the best price for a Fidanza?

£240 sounds about right for the flywheel mate, might be able to get one on here second hand if you wait for one. Depends how quickly you want to get hold of it i guess. :thumleft:
