maybe use it less in winter, especially on the particularly bad days.

grit and salt on the roads combined with all the mud and crap that sit on UK roads in winter can damage the paint, and accelerate corrosion.

but i wouldnt not use the car at all

as has been said, cars always seem to deteriorate if left unused outside during winter.

ive seen it happen many times, where a car that had some minor rust hasnt even been used, but has been rotten by the end of winter.

the changes in temperature, the endless battering from rain, frost, snow, ice, etc takes its toll on tired metalwork

i think the car getting upto operating temperature every day does it quite a bit of good.

so my suggestion would be not to use the car on the bad days, but if youre not using it for a week or 2, start it up every other day, and stick a double figure mileage on it every week just to give it a run.

youll need to have it taxed to do this

(and thus might decide its better just to use it all the time, since youre paying for it), but i wouldnt want to leave it sat outside all winter without being used

the only time id take an old car off the road completely for winter is if it was being dry stored indoors, and ideally with heating too!
