rev3 tubby against 350z (story)

Post by gnzyza »

Hi,

behind a 350z, overtook and he was giving it some to keep up.
we swapped position a few time, and he was up for it coz we gave each other the nod.
but from say bout [naughty speed] to [very naughty speed], he just couldn't pull away, in fact we was quicker everytime. (edited by admin)

I was quite suprised, im running stock everything except apexi filter.
the 350z i think is about 315bhp, 3.5l v6.
0-60 i wud imagine the tubby would of beat it, but at that speed i would thought the Z to have the top end.
must be heavy?
anyway after getting pasted, he pulled over to the slow lane

350z's are nice cars

But yes you are right they are heavy and they wont beat a turbo.

Mine is standard and everytime i have gone against one i have won, even when i went against a supercharged one up at the 1/4 mile strip.

Not as fast as a turbo 2.

I would still have one though! :)

yeah i do like them, still pretty amazed at the power of the tubby top end up against it thou wud of thought it would have the edge easy, bigger v engine and more bhp. i seen an fq300 on you tube struggling to keep up with one on the straights. amazing the tubby still entertains all these power cars still today!

Even standard MR2 turbos are giant slayers in their own right...

Well in a straight line and in the dry anyway!

i think the 350 z is only 288 stock???
my dad has bought one recxently and my stock rev2 gave it a run for its money, they sound amazing though.
I still think they are a huge 2 seater car, you could of easily fit another 2 seats in the back.
I had a drive and it was weird being so used to a bit of lag, the power is there instantly, very impressed, shame about the plastic dash :(

We had one down at 3S to have some work done on the brakes........

These things are potent!! James feels they are quicker than a stock MR2 turbo!! They look great too 8) Working on one has really changed my mind about them :)

Didn't some program state that after driving one for one year, they were on the third or second engine?? As in... unreliable?

On the way back from the Nur we (my old rev 3 tubby/mates RX7TT) had a play with one and yes they are quick but with just an apexi induction kit and boost raised form 13 to 15.5psi I left him behind once we were going up to and past 130.

He had the head start as when we saw him go past up we swapped lames in quick presuit!

then once he moved over and gave us a nod... the RX7 (circa tuned to 350bhp) left me behind! ](*,)

Renault engines....

I would imagine tubbies have more torque to shove you forward?

Well dont mean to be a big head but I own both cars!

There has been been 4 revisions of the 350Z already. The first engines pushing out 270BHP to the one I own which pushes out 309bhp. The engine in the 350Z is one of the best engines in the world, apparently(according to the industry polls, the engine has been around a while and has been in the top 10 best engines for ten years on the trot now).

I would reckon the standard rev3 tubby v standard 350z would be a dead heat. They have similar 0-60 speeds but when it gets to about 120mph the 350Z would pull ahead as its really does pull hard to the rev limiter in all gears but is limited to 155MPH.

Both cars are great in their own ways.

After driving them with passion on B roads I would say the Zed is the easier to drive and holds the road really well oozing confidence. Whilst the 2 as we know needs your full attention but rewards you more.

What I like about my zed is it feels (to me anyways) like a lighter, nimbler car that it actually is.
What I like about my 2 is that is a pocket rocket and scares me more!

oh, the zed feels slower because of the lack of torque that you get from a turbo, watching the speedo move up dispels that feeling instantly. It is quick. But like all cars should be quicker.

350z

309bhp! Nice

I'll inform the person that told me about the engines that he should have another look into the 350z.

One of my favourite cars used to be the 300z and I must admit that the 350z is a good looking car... apart from the petrol cap that looks as if it failed Ripspeeds quality control.

Have one tomorrow if I could

Thats what i thought, at the top end he would pull away, we was doing quite abit of speed. could be the lower spec model, either way the 350z is a lovely car. the thing i like most about it is the sound!
Point is nice to see 12 yr ol car in standard spec still giving many newer cars a good run for there money, it just always amazes me how the 2 puts down the power.

Actually the 350z has 268lbs of torque which is more than a standard tubby.

Probably true as I get the wheels spinning on aggressive gear changes into 3rd which i cannot get the 2 to do.

I used to have a Maxima which had a VQ30DE engine the 350Z has a VQ35DE which is basically the same engine with more power and size. as for reliability. . . I sold mine at 198,976 miles an had every receipt for work ever done on the car. The sum total of engine work was. . . oil, oil filter, air filter, and spark plugs. Oh and 2 O2 sensors. It was still even running on the OE clutch.

I would love to have a 350 but can't afford one and don't really need another 2 seater.
