Are bushing kits from the States really that bad?

Post by Tiger Tim »

Are the bushing kits from the USA really that bad or would they do what I want. I only put up about 2000 miler/year. The rubber bushings on my MK1A are fairly tired & I could do with uprating them. Got a price from Fensport for the complete kit - £123.85 which converts to 178 EURO but from TwosRUS the prothane kit works out at 105 dollars or 74 EURO which is quite a difference. I can get my Brother-in-law to bring them home with him in Nov. Any advice. Has anyone used the TwosRUS offering.

Thanks,

Tim

I fitted the prothane kit last year to my 1a which I bought off ebay direct from prothane in the US. Paid about £40 for the kit and £20 for postage. all the bushes were a good fit and were supplied with instructions and ample sachets of grease. I haven't noticed any problems with them so far. Jinxy on here doesn't like them he recently swapped them out for Superflex bushes after his ARB bushes started to deteriorate. But horses for courses I say, Jinxy's car is a daily driver so well worth the extra cost and effort, I'm like you and only do a few thousand a year so the prothane will do me.

yes i would agree with those comments. if you do 2k a year then no probs but 15k and you may start to see the deteriation. dont forget the weight factor !

I have a mix of Prothane and Superflex on my car. The Prothane are so hard I wouldn't dare put them on the strut rods because of the harsh ride, I'd go Superflex all the way.

I can believe that the Prothane bushes deform after a while, the harder the compound the less likely it is to keep springing back into position I'd say. No problems like that myself yet though.

Can't you drill holes in the Prothane bushes to soften them up a bit?

I guess so, done it on my poly engine mounts. My bushes are all done now, Superflex on the strut rods so I'm happy for now.

Hi i have just ordered two total kits from the states. they cost £106 inc p&p, not bad for 2 sets, Also the US 2s are us are expensive for these bush kits. Ive seen them for as low as $73 about £36 but becarefull with the p&p. then the import duty but even after this theres still a large saving to be had. colin

Ive had the prothane bushes on my car for about a year now and they made a big difference and still do, the car just felt so much tighter with them on. The car holds its line when cornering so much better.
