[Mk2] [Turbo] taking throttle body apart?

Post by jimGTS »

lots of screws..

is it a case of undoing these, as they appear to me marked in paint, so when i put it back together do i need to make especially sure they line up?

i asume all the bits can easily be taken off, nothings gona full out, or need to me reset or adjusted when i put it back together....??

Hi Jim,

When I used to paint up remote control car bodies, I used to use a type of mask that you could paint on, it would set like rubber (sort of like copydex glue(sp?) and you could just peel it off once the paint was dry.
You can get it from most model shops and places where they sell humbrol enamel paints.

As for the screws, I always thought that the paint on them was used to hold them in place to stop them vibrating undone, but I could be wrong

Regards

If its similar to the rev 3 item Jim its a five minute job to take the throttle body off! Just don't knock the blimin metal gasket off its locator pins, took me an age to find out where it had gone and extract it without bending it :D

Just disconnect the throttle cable, vacume lines, intercooler pipe and I think there was a coolant line in there too. 2 Short bolts 2 looong bolts and 2 that secure it to the rocker cover from memory...

im talking about mismattling the TB itself....
but as it seems, best to mask it off when its off.

Ah .... Sorry.
Well I took mine off and stripped it completely apart, sensors the lot so I could get all the muck off/out of it, clean/polish it up. There's a little rubber gasket thats a pain in the rectum to get back in the right spot but simple otherwise...
