I've had an MR2 as a daily driver for over 3 years. Used my old N/A daily and it never let me down once, although later in it's life it needed a few bits replacing and it started burning oil.

Had a turbo for about a month and I'm using that daily, not the best or most economical car to choose I know, but it's great fun. I'm currently doing about 270 miles a week. It costs me about £60 extra to run each month compared to the N/A (fuel and insurance).

Daily drive! Hate it when I'm not behind the wheel. Looking a bit tatty now (ain't got the cash for mods) but mechanically looked after. Last week something went 'clunk' on the offside front going over a speed bump (council - grrr) so that'll be the next spend :-(

Otherwise I agree with some of the other comments - mr2's were built for driving!

Daily driver here too, even gets lawnmowers and strimmers chucked in it!

Can do up to 400 miles a week in it sometimes, just love driving it and no major mechanicals gone wrong up to now :D

Have had my tubby for 2+years now, I drove it to work and back for the first year,(about 5 miles) and decided I was doing it more harm than good so when my wife decided to buy a new diesel golf to replace her old one I bought her old one to use daily, 150k miles and still on the original clutch, amazing :D So now I pamper the tubby, :D \:D/ 3000 mile oil changes, new bushes all round etc etc a wax every week, it gets a bit obsessional but you know the score. Anyway I think my tubby is great and I'll never get rid of it, I just think it's the best car for the money that anyone can buy.

Erm.... had my white tubby for well over a year now ..... and i've only done 532 miles in her

Bought a Scooby for a daily driver - however thankfully i get to drive works cars most of the time these days!

Any one who thinks a mr2 tubby goes through fuel - try an sti for a week - it was shocking! (£90-£120 per week anyone??? and that was standard and in good low mileage health!)  #-o

i konw of 2 friends who both use their tubbys as dialy drives. one of them goes about 50 miles a day 5 days a week for the last 5 years and the other goes about 50 miles a working week. for the most part they have had no trouble and can depend on the tubby to get them to where they need to be.

but both have had engines blow up. the guy that does more miles has had 2 enignes blow up in 5 years and his cars is standard
however between engine changes his car has been perfect.

the lower mile one blew up because the boost was wound up too high. all the suspension is shot (and has been for a long while now) and it feels tatty to drive. looks mint though. but this was a very cheap car and doesnt get masses spent on it.

Mines been a daily driver since I bought it a year ago. I had to replace the radiator a month after I got it, but I consider them wear items anyhow.
I am moving soon, and will be about two miles from work. The car will probably stay under a cover most of this winter and I can just hoof it to work.

Mine is used daily. Commute to work - 10 mile round trip.
used on track days, general blasts around A roads if im bored on a night and fancy a pick me up.

I did use to run 2 cars, a Mondeo and the 2 but then I worked out the cost of just running the 2 and it worked out far cheaper once the mondeo was sold and I no longer had to fuel that, service it, tax it and insure it - the extra fuel on the 2 comes up to nowhere near the cost of a 2nd car.

The only thing I miss is the extra space of a bigger car to lug stuff about in.

Wash, Wax and mini valet once a week to try and keep it looking nice, Service regular with all the right fluids (perhaps a bit overkill but i change oil & filter every 2500 miles) Drive sensible in the wet and take even more care in the snow :)

How do you maintain the exhaust with the winter salt?

Drifter that's very good. I take it you drive mostly off boost? I'm only getting about 200-210 miles to a tank.

yes i do drive most off-boost as work and back is only like 2miles and dont wana wreck the engine on cold, so i dont go above like 3000rpm on a cold start lol, but when i go 4 a drive on a nice sunny day, the boost is full FTW lol, also only use Optimax aswell lol.

Dont wana ruin engine as it sounds lovely atm, no cam tapping nothing its great :D

Guilty.

I run three cars, but do use mine for the daily commute, it's meant to be driven, why settle for second best?

Kind Regards
Baruc.

Cheers Harry. The rims are Kei Office KS-05's and to keep the exhaust clean

I was using my tubby as my daily driver for the last 3 years and for the last 3 months or so was getting 350 miles to the tank! Was doing 60 miles a day so that only lasted a week but hey. Now however the tubby is coming off the road as we now have 4 cars ( 2 B4's, the mr2 and a focus) and will be aimed at the track more than ever.

Mike

Driving a B4 :lover: now.
