[Mk2] [Turbo] Who Uses Their Tubby As A Day To Day Driver?

Post by Pete_MR2 »

Just wondering as three years ago (when i bought the car) i bought a banger to use through the winter. When the summer came round the MOT on the car had ran out, then the tax etc etc this sprialled out of control to the point where i put the car into storage for 3 years!

Anyway, since then ive had the car re sprayed, de catted and full cat back stainles system fitted + 16" split rims - in a word the car looks AWESOME!!

It's due a service (well over due to be honest) but ill get this done asap. Should i just keep running this car now till it comes to the end of its life? It's a Rev 2 and had just hit 30,000 miles. Not bad i guess!

Cheers. :D

Yes matey, its there to drive 8) \:D/

Mine's been my daily driver for 2.5 years now (since I bought it), and I've never had an issue in the winter, even driving on snow! Just drive to the conditions of the road and there's no reason not to have it as a daily driver.

I understand people who only run their's through the siummer as its a show car but you just have to keep on top of valeting and get sideskirts and bumpers blown over every year or two and it will look like a show car all year round 8)

mine is just a toy used to regularly use it for work (wel my old rev1),but then Work bought me a van and supply all the fuel aswell ,Hence why i can now go so mad modding it up \:D/

sometimes goes 2 weeks before i drive it ,which is annoying as the battery is normally flat :(

Yeah me too. Dont find the tubby any more costly to run than the NA either. Also ive gone past caring about show looks. My car is a little rough around the egdes now but ask anyone...it still looks awesome!

I use my car as a daily driver......I've driven it from London to the North West of Ireland too....going to be driving back next month aswell!

Thats about 500 miles give or take....wouldn't have it any other way. Don't usually do the motorway's either as the A roads are far more fun!!

I use my tubby every day in and out of work an 80 mile round trip each day. But it will be going into hibernation soon though as the forst and ice is not far away. Then THE VAN has to come out  I hate the van [-(

I used to drive my REV3 tubby daily but it just frustrated me as I had to drive 10 miles to work in bumper to bumper traffic - the fastest I could get up to on the run would be 40 mph and that only occasionally!

Also it has exceptionally low miles and I felt kind of guilty to be racking up miles on wasted commuting driving on such a great tubby.

Nakamura I am surprised you didn;t find a change in fuel economy? Eve driving off boost my tubby seemed a lot more thirsty than the NA I have now...

Maybe I just drive like a twit...

James i really dont use more fuel than before the conversion. Tank costs the same to fill, and lasts as long. I dont really boost much tho. Ironic really. All that power and drive slower. :?

Daily drive for me also which consisted of a few 100mile round trip commute when on placement at uni, and then 60 mile round trips to uni in my final year, and now just 8mile round trip to work every day which Im much more pleased about :thumleft:

As long as you service them regularly and keep them clean they'll do you well through the winter. Mine hasn't let me down yet in over a years ownership which is good for a modified performance car imo :)

My daily drive for the last 4+ years and here's a pic of it out in some lovely snow (in April)

Image

Wash, Wax and mini valet once a week to try and keep it looking nice, Service regular with all the right fluids (perhaps a bit overkill but i change oil & filter every 2500 miles) Drive sensible in the wet and take even more care in the snow :)

I use to make a weekly commute between Southport (up North near Preston) and Orpington (South East LOndon) plus a daily commute between Orpington, Chipstead and Brands Hatch which was about 650 miles per week. Ive done it in both a turbo and a N/A auto and the saving is about 1/4 to a 1/3. Turbo was the mopre fun - Auto was nicer in stop/start traffic on motorways :-)

Used to use as daily driver, but new home forces my sale.
Will be keeping the MK1 for the weekend and have crappy diesel as the runaround car.
Mileage for daily work travel has just tripled with the forthcoming move.
I am going to live forever, or die trying!

I use my as a weekend/Toy car, only done just over 10,000 miles in 3 years.

I used to drive a £500 Astra to work every day but after 2 of them broke I got fed up and bought this...

It costs more to run than the MR2 but it more comfortable and I can't bring myself to sell the MR2 either. On the plus side it's got 4 seats and a massive boot so it must be practical, right?

Mine is my daily driver.

2 years now and over 20k miles.

Oil+ Filter 3 months, and Fuel filter and spark plugs every year.

I wash mine every week, and get a wax fairly regularly.

1 thing to mention is when something breaks, get it fixed asap, although saying that i have been lacking in this fairly recenlty with my exhaust off 1 of its hangers, but you get the drift.

Mine's my daily driver... had it for 2 and half years done about 20k miles. Not going to be using it every day for much longer, going to be getting something cheap to run! The MR2 is staying though!
