Post by McBride »

This is my temp guage just crusing around town etc it stays the same if im booting it up or just crusing along,

Today on the motorway after over 300 miles The temp guage never budged from here, Then back in town back up to normal temp??

Is it just because on the motorway theirs alot more colder air getting to the engine? Even tho is thi sa save temp?

Once my engine has warmed up my temp gauge has never moved from the position shown in your first picture.

Maybe your coolant system has malfunctioned and coolant was being continuously circulated unnecessarily leading to a lower than normal coolant temperature.

Something isn't right though.

u sure it couldn't just be a faulty thermostat? My money would be on that. Mine Sits Just below halfway mark and never moves an inch even when giving it some beans.

Chr15py had this problem. Basically it's almost certainly that your thermostat that has stuck open - therefore coolant is continuously circulating and not letting the engine reach working temperature. It's far better than it getting stuck and your engine overheating! It will be causing overfuelling, though, so don't know if you've noticed your mpg is lower than it should be?

Worn thermostats is a very common problem with these cars, so don't worry. It's a routine job to change to a new one and shouldn't be expensive.

yup, I'd put the thermostat as being dead. Mine behaved exactly the same way. Cold as on the motorway and heating up in traffic

Yeah mine's doing exactly the same thing mate. Taking it to Rogue for them to check over on Thursday. They said they think it's the thermostat stuck open but on my car all the gauges on the dash play up at times. Not sure if that's just a co-incidence or what.

I agree looks like typical over cooling problem caused by a faulty thermostate,
Does the car take a long time to get up to operating tempreature?

Yeah mine does, probably about 10-15 mins whereas it should only take about 7-8 mins considering it's a turbo.
