Have you cut any wires from near the intake manifold?

No.. i haven't removed the aircon unit from the rear of the car. I only removed the stuff up front. down to the back of the car.

Check the AM2 fuse under the bonnet and the ECU-IG fuse in the engine bay. Report back.

A tell tale sign that I found when my main fuse went was that the fans came on constant when you turn the ignition on.

Still worth checking all the fuses in case something else has gone too.

Do any dash lights come on?

Yes all the dash lights come on.. the power steering comes on contantly. and it does not make any noise when you turn the key. Ie. no starter click..

and thats it.. there is plenty of power in the battery... its just strange..

 well paul (pnjmcc) came over last night and we got stuck into fixing the problem. We traced the wires for the alarm back to the point where the immobilzer is connected and removed the T in the wire reconnected it bypassing the alarm. This didn't work.. :(

So while paul was struggling with the wiring in the drivers footwell i decided to take a walk around my car. Lets face it when you got the lacky doing all the work you might as well take a breather and relax.. I decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to treble check the fuses again..

Now when this problem originally happened i checked the fuses every one of them twice

Low and behold ACM ?? fuse had blown. i was shocked really. So we replaced it..

Click click Vroooom she started with no problems at all. I don't understand how this could be possible the whole middle of the fuse was blown out so i can't of missed it.

The only thing i can think of is that i was panicking when i was looking at it first two times and i didn't see it..

So what was gained from this..

1. when checking fuses make sure you are paying attention to what you are doing.

2. They guy who wired my alarm in made a mess of it..

But my car works now so i'm happy i just need to tidy all the wires up again.. It looks a complete mess.

I was chatting with a few mates last night about alarms and we all agreed that these "thatcham approved installers" are a complete joke and all examples I've seen have had seriously shody workmanship. Yours seems to be joining the list of crap installs too.

Glad you sorted it now mate. :thumleft:

Yeh mate i know some of the wiring is shocking. I'm very tempted to rip it all out and start again but then it won't be thatcham approved.. The alarm itself is naff anyway and seems to go off during the night for no reason.

So i don't know what to do. :?

What sort of alarm is it??

And I don't see why redoing it wouldn't make it still thatcham approved. Unless it was checked and they say "nah, they'd never make it look that neat"

Its a cobra sigma 1984.. I'd ideally like to replace it with a better one that don't keep going off. :?

I know the cliffords suffer from sh!t internal batteries. And they sense them as a voltage drop so sound the siren. Also they have crappy proximaty (sp) sensors. Oh the cliffords are crap

Might be worth googling sigme faults or something, see what comes up.

Dave, got a SIGMA thing on mine. Its uber sensitive and suffers from temperature drops as well. As its a T-bar this doesn't help. It could be as the vehicle cools overnight from the heat that the alarm triggers. Am looking at trying to reduce the sensitivity of mine now.
I am going to live forever, or die trying!

1. when checking fuses make sure you take the fuse out to check it rather than just look at it from the top

2. When you ask someone if they have checked the fuses, ignore what they say and go check yourself !

3. Draven does make a nice cup of tea though

My TOAD suffers from wet wether paranoi-er, this is due to the pin swithces (Bonnet, boot etc) getting wet, all it usually takes is for me to smear some GP grease on the contacts and its cured
