[Mk2] [NA] auto to manual

Post by bray »

well after a disaster which seen me not make it to the world recored attempt im finally looking at getting back into a 2.

now my disaster was that the engine in my mr2 auto died completly and we could not be seen for black smoke.

so here goes i have been offered an accident dameged mr2 turbo by a friend of mine with a view to rebuilding my car now as they never made an turbo auto im looking to strip every thing i can off the turbo car and put it into my body shell.

which means converting my auto into a manual car so can it be done?

there both rev1 1990 imports!

any help would be greatfully received!

Yep I`d say it would be similar in principle to a normal transplant except you need to add the clutch system and gear selector cables and gearstick.

Would imagine everything would be there i.e holes to bolt stuff on as Toyota would not have made the chasis different for the sake of the Auto.

It would take longer than a normal transplant and would be a good little project if you got the time and patients to see it through, I would say go for it. :thumleft:

For the engine swap you need the engine complete with transmission, driveshafts, exhaust, ECU and all wiring attached including passenger footwell wiring loom. :thumleft:

If you need some expert advice on any transplants contact Patrick at Rogue he knows his stuff.

thanks for the reply and thats what i have been thinking that the chassis is the same for holes etc and yes it would be a good project and one i would certainly like the challenge of.

ill have both cars sat side by side for the transplant so ecu drive shafts etc is no problem.
