[Mk2] [Turbo] Urgent exhaust help needed...

Post by shabz »

I'm traveling about 100 miles from home on sunday to pick up a blitz nur spec...I'm swapping it for my longlife dual exit exhaust...

Whats involved with swapping the exhausts? and what tools would i need? If my downpipe fits the nur spec the swap will be excluding downpipe...if the downpipe doesnt fit then its including the downpipe

Also...will it be possible with 8" ramps? Really wish there was a haynes manual for the 2 :(

Anyone in south wales free on sunday and want to make some cash? :D

Should be fairly easy if you already have an aftermarket exhaust fitted you should just need a ratchet, some extensions and some sockets if you take 10,12,13,14,16,17mm sockets you should have most of it covered at that.

Start with the 3 bolts from your downpipe (exhaust side of the engine).

Then undo the 2 bolts to the rear section as most systems are in 2-3 parts then that should sort out your mid/ flexi section.

You might get away with just sliding your current exhaust off your rubber mounts if not un bolt them then take it off the mounts.(spray the rubber mounts with wd40 or similar it will make things easier to slide off)

cheers :):) sounds ok to me, i'll write all that down...my zorst is aftermarket so hopefully that will help...

have now decided its gunna be a downpipe+zorst swap...cos his downpipe is 3" :D will the 8" ramps be enough to get the downpipe off aswell?

i'll go get a piccy of underneath the car in a bit to see if its all normal

What type of downpipe is it?

Ramps should be fine mate did mine on axel stands first time then had it off again after running for a while to change the manifold which I did on a proper lift at work was a bit easier.

Oh yeah might be wise to take similar sized spanners with you mate and to get your downpipe off you will need a 10mm to undo the dipstick with.

Yeah the oil check dipstick.
Your downpipe will probably be bolted staright on at the turbo then again at the mid section.

Undoing it at the turbo can be a bit fiddly! Not a bad job tho.

Ahh i see...

Something I've just thought of...the zorst i have is double exit...the one im getting is single exit...will I need to swap all the hangers/mounts around aswell? or will my mounts work with the nur spec?

Also...is the nur spec sleeve or flange fitment? never done anything like this but id assume that you need gaskets if its flange or paste if its sleeve? are new bolts needed too...or can i use the original gasket/bolts/no paste as a temporary measure?

Why are you swapping downpipes? Do you mean the flexi section.

Swapping exhausts over is realy easy, no need to touch the hangers.. Just unbolt your old exhaust and refit the new one.

Struggling to see why you need to swap downpipes though?

he has a 3" downpipe to match the nur spec...or at least i think he does...i'll check when i get there, he says he'll loose performance if he keeps this downpipe with my zorst which seems a bit strange to me

i have a 2.5" downpipe to match the longlife zorst...

surely the hangers on the dual exit are in different places to the nur spec?

here's pics of my hangers...

the hanger seem to be welded to the zorst...

firstly...woudlnt the hanging points be in different places on the nur spec? and secondly the hangers are welded to the zorst as in the pic

Not to sure about the downpipe thing, as i always thought all downpipes were the same unless you had a different turbo on there.

As for the hanging brackets, The exhausts we buy match up with the exhausts on the car, You never need to alter anything thats the whole point of buying an exhaust specfic for the car.

I've had a Trust, nurspec, buddyclub and now the motoria twin exhaust, all bolt up to stock locations, as do all the other named exhausts :thumleft:

Oh i think i can see what your meaning now.... Are you on about the hanging bracket from the exhaust going through the hanging bracket on the car having a weld at the end of it.

Looks to me like a washer has been welded on the end to stop it from sliding out for some reason...... just knock it off

yes that weld...out comes the hammer mwahaha  gunna go bash at it now

i see what your saying about the hangers now...didnt realise they'd all be in the same place, good news!

sounds to me the zorst itself shouldnt be too hard...its the downpipe im now worried about changing
