[All] [Generic] This is probably a stupid question

Post by gavinl »

But here goes...

I'm trying to make a custom centerpeice for a steering wheel, would it be possible to adapt this keyring by removing the keychain etc and welding/brazing two threaded pins so it could be bolted through a thin sheet of metal

The keyring is about 35mm wide

see here

I have no doubt it can be done, but it all depends on the time involved, the steering wheel you are using, where the horn placement is etc etc. Interesting little project though.

This is a replacement for a very boring centre badge on standard Toyota wheel.

It will all work fine if I can get the pins attached, just need to know who to approch to get the work done

I do a lot of welding both now and in the past. Normally the metal that these keyrings are made up of are not suitable for welding, putting a hot torch near them for brazing usually results in them melting. I would suggest a strong adhesive rather than any form of welding/brazing.

Thanks for the reply :)

I have two varients of the symbol, one of which is Stainless...would that be any diffent?

I hadn't considered adhesive. I will look into that avenue.

Thanks, Gavin
