[Mk2] [Turbo] WATER LEAK COMING FROM THE BOTTOM MIDDLE OF THE CAR????

Post by djskylineuk »

Hi guys as title says iv got a leak comming from the bottom round about front/middle part of the car whenever i touch the metal pipe beilieved to be the one comming from the engine to the radiator its all wet and i loose coolant on every journey about half a glass full and i look under the car and its the same spot it leaks from all the time,

Now how do i remove that pipe if i want it repaired?? is it one big section going from the rubber pipe from the engine to the radiator?

this is annoying as every journey i have to top up my coolant more then my petrol!

Possibly a break in the feeder pipes to the radiator, they run through the middle of the underside

your going to have to jack the car up, remove the plastic under sheet and have a look.

Not quite, there's a few sections to it - but the bit you want is quite a long one.

That's if it's not the pipes from hell...

Theres two pipes running from each side of the car. At the rear of these pipes are 2 bleed points but as your leak is coming from the front it cant be due to a loose bolt. From the diagram and personal (pain in the ass) experience it may be leaking from where the long pipe meets the rubber hose in which case you may only need to check the tension of the clamp or replace the rubber.
Any chance of some photos, as it may not be leaking from where you think it is. The coolant could be leaking from higher up and running down the pipe.

Towards were the engine is, that side is ok i get a leak comming from the front of the car i have removed all the plastics etc and ran my finger over the metal pipe and its all wet thats were all the waters comming from,

i don't see why the metal pipe would leak as its a pretty beefy pipe is there like a rubber connection towards the front that may join two pipes together?

i will try and get some pics up later on

Jeez! Found out were the waters leaking from there seems to be like a tank next to the flexible pipe comming from the engine side and connecting to the radiator pipe that feeds the front radiator,

just to pin point were the tank is exactly, just beneath the passenger seat towards the engine side just in the middle!

On the lip of the tank it looks dented might have hit a bump ?

Now i want to know what this tank is? Surely cant be petrol tank as theres coolant leaking from it

i have added a picture for you guys to see were the water is comming from?

You reckon abit of weld will sort this out?

i'll put a tenner on your heater hose is fractured at the rear above the petrol tank,it fractures right on a brazed bracket behind your engine bay heat shield...water then drips off this and runs along the tank and then down somewhere else.Thats my guess anyway!

Nightmare to repair, petrol tank out job.

Sorry but is that near the back of the car under the engine. The only bits that hold coolant are the expansion tank and the coolant sump which has a bleed point. I rekon like pw its its coming from a fractured pipe and running down.

yeh that pic is towards the back near the engine side, it's prob what pw said the heater hose as its treakling down the tank and dripping most likely the heater pipes

all you do is cut the pipes past the crack, and slap on some 19mm hosing.

Run it straight from there onto the coolant housing/waterbracket above the starter motor.

For a typical garage, you're looking at 1hour to remove the tank, 1hour for the job, and another hour to refit the tank.

So 3hours labour, with maybe £20 TOPS for parts.
