[Mk2] [Turbo] CT26 Hybrid

Post by Ja99a »

Anyone used one of these, any ideas how they perform?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 482&rd=1,1

I am considering this as its a bolt on and no manifolds etc are needed.

If there is enough interest we could ask if he would do a group buy and get the shipping reduced etc.

Thoughts please.

word of warning matey, i bought a t3 'hybrid' ct26 from the states on ebay, good price, saved £100 over competitors in the UK selling similar spec turbo's.

The turbo lasted around 100 miles before it packed up. Think then of having to ship it back to the US if you get problems as they'll wanna check it out before offering any refund - expensive, especially when they'll probably turn round and say you havent fitted properly etc......

not saying you'll get stung by this particular seller but just something to think about as i lost in the region of £400.

Simon :)

Who else sells these CT26's with different internals in the UK. If they only differ by £100 I will get one.

Well someone has to pay for their 4WD Corolla and Celica - who else but the customers

I was being fair, offering Ja99a impartial advice.

Fensport's stage 3 CT26 - £934 plus delivery.

http://www.fensport.co.uk/products.htm (Look under engine tuning)

ATS Racing's CT27 - £795 including delivery.

Beware of ebay.com CT26 hybrids. I know of one forum meber Nick who bought one, very shiny it was, and about $450 all in.

Took Rogue days to fit it and cost Nick a fortune. Patrick will be able to tell you why it would not fit as it should.

Dont buy precision mechanical & electrical products abroad. Think of the potential aggro if you have to return it. Lots of traders on this site can supply your needs and give guarantees.

Ive made loads of mistakes and its cost me big time!

Dont do it.

Damn, has no one got anything good to say about this? PML.

The turbo listed on ebay is supposedly a standard CT26 opened up to suit larger internals, this guy unfortunately charges an additional $100 if you want it in an MR2 twin entry housing :(

and delivery is $150 ish.

So if the turbo was won at $499 then the costs still look pretty good.

$100 Housing
$150 Delivery
$499 Turbo

$749 which at 1.8 exchange is still only £416

I guess as you guys have pointed out, the ultimate question is, is it worth risking £400+ or spend twice as much on one where the origin is basically known and issues are easier to resolve...

He was thinking about it, but the whole deal - turbo, shipping and duty etc and fitting cost him over £1100

Turbo Technics can offer you a range of uprated hybride CT26 based turbo units. theyre i Northampton and know more about turbos than just about anyone. Theyve been involved in racing since the year dot and have worked on pretty much EVERY marque. They were even called upon as consultants by Fords rallye Sport division in the 80s!!!!!!

http://www.turbotechnics.com/docs/index.htm

I ran a stg one TT unit as did Mark Edwards on his car (RIP) and he achieved over 300hp using std fuelling although admittedly that was close to the edge.
