[Mk2] [Generic] Rev1, Rev2 or Rev 3 engine??

Post by jimbo1989 »

I am getting my turbo conversion done the early part of next year but cant make my mind up what engine to get...

The Rev1 & 2 engines are considerably cheaper than the Rev3 engine so cant decide. I understand why they differ due to injector sies etc but am wondering how fast a MR2 would be with a rev1 compared to a rev 3?

I know the later engines are easier to increase power but dont think I will want to go to overbored..... How much power can you get out of a Rev1/2 engine without spending thousands?

What would you guys do??

Rouge have said the can do a Rev 1 engine for around £2200 or a Rev 3 engine for around £3200. I know the rev 1 engine will be older but they have siad that i i am in know rush they could source one from Japan with low miles etc and considering I only a max of 2000 miles a year the age shouldnt really matter!!

~275rwhp is the safe limit of the gen2 3sgte on stock fuelling. Good enough for 12 second 1/4s.

The gen3 motor is superior in stock and bolt on form, but the two motors become equal once you start with headwork, intake manifolds and much larger turbos and fuelling setups.
