[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 intake manifold on a rev1

Post by SW20Paul »

Hi guys,
Does anyone know whats involved in fitting a Rev3 intake manifold onto a rev1 turbo ?
Obviously im gonna use the rev3 TB but i was just wondering if the rev3 manifold will actually bolt on ?

It will not bolt directly on, the bolt pattern and the actual runner shapes are different.

Im sure the ports may even be offset differently to the rev1/2 but not 100% on that one.

Graeme is right - totally different bolt patterns.

Please excuse my ignorance but what are the benefits of Rev 3 inlet manifold on a Rev 1/2?

Cheers

Interesting... Rev3 inlet manifold on Rev1/2 head... Not doubting you at all, but what power/torque increases did you see?

I have just installed the rev3 manifold and throttle on my car by the use of a custom adaptor flange to adapt the runner positions and 2 different stud locations.

The Throttle body is 5mm bigger and intake manifold is much larger, put it this way since installing on my car my air/fuel ratio have gone to 12's which is too lean. Mapping on wednesday to acommodate for all the extra air going in so will report back but i would not recommend anyone installing with out a remapped ecu as on a rev1/2 ecu it will certainly be running to lean in mid range and will damage engine

mr2 lover i thought you were going with some sort of carbon intake manifold ? or was that someone else :-k

Any way Iv'e decided not to bother the only reason i though about it was that i got one cheap off ebay and though it would save me gutting the tvis, Since its not really an issue at the moment i'll wait till i do my build next year and get a custom one :D

P.S I've now now sold the manifold

I was going carbon until i read some horry stories of them cracking and shattering as carbon does. You know the rest

Another bit of MR2 trivia i didn't know.

i thought the rev1/2 manifold having AICS built in helped the torque?

or is the torque basically controlled by the spool of the turbo and the AICS was just something they didn't realise that wasn't needed from the 3S-GE engine until later on and thats why they ditched it for the rev3+?
