MR2 Only Nurburging trip June 07

Post by steveybMR2-173 »

This is only a preliminary enquiry, just to try and work out the level of interest, but we are regular visitors to the Nurburgring in Germany, some of our team have been numerous times, and even have cars out there.

Next year will be my third visit, and it had crossed my mind whether to arrange an MR2 Only trip, possibly meeting up with some Euro guys Ive made contact with whilst working on the mag, to make it worth while, I guess a group of 15 cars would be managable, we know the places to stay, where to eat, places to get great photos of the 13 mile track, things to do while until the track is open etc, and some good tips on the travelling.

We were thinking of maybe a three night stay, leaving GB on Thursday early hours, and spending the Thurs, Fri, Sat, driving back Sunday.

This would be a great personal experience, and a great subject for the magazine to cover, we are thinking maybe May or June, and are just guaging the idea of numbers at the moment, will post more details here, and on www.mr2only.com in due course.

Please note that it is a dangerous place, but with a bit of responsibility, its a great place for car enthusiasts and budding photographers, we dont really want any PlayStation heroes, as it would certainly end in tears, as we have seen it happen!

We would come up with an itinerary and as many details as you would need, accomm, crossing, fuel costs etc, but it would be up to the individuals to make their reservations and accomm/crossing bookings, as I dont really want to get involved in collecting deposits and having any let downs etc.

See what the feedback is...

Assuming I haven't totalled my car at a trackday before then i'd be well up for that, rather go euro tunnel though, I hate boats!

Great! getting good feedback!

We have been by both, tunnel is very efficient, cuts down the travel time, only half an hour to cross, although the boat gives you a break, however, I too hate boats!

Will monitor the feedback, and will post/make more details available in due course

Providing my mr2 is running and i've learnt enough self control to drive at 8/10th instead of 10/10ths all the time i'm in. Really can't afford to have one of my moments at the ring though.

lol... know what you mean, we saw an MR2 cop it on our last visit, the trip is more about having fun, and the experience, with the travelling, and the other things, like the bars, restaurants, and the karting, the track action, and all the places you can spectate, and see some awesome cars its an amazing adventure.

We certainly wont be encouraging record breaking times!

I'd probably be up for that, dependant on the date.

I'm very interested - Dependant on the date obviously.
My only commitments currently are Le Mans mid/end of June, and a charity cycle ride i'm doing early July.

Cheers,

Stacked it? I'll have you know I had a calculated slide into the gravel as the track was still a bit wet. Oh, and there was diesel down too. And ice. 8-[

Thanks guys, quite a pleasing response from the owners clubs, quite a few takers from the roadsters also, will try and get some more details made available this week, some possible dates, and costs etc.

There was a reason you were faster for the ONE LAP before you fell off, I think its called driving to fast for the conditions? Oh, and if it was a real race I would've won--lol

PS, I haven't spoke to Ryan!

PPS Re-match at the 'ring?

Yes we are interested to do it but like 'skinthespin' require euro tunnel
had a chat about a Euro trip and the feedback from fellow Imocers was
great. Not keen leaving the front bumper behind off a ferry ramp. =D> :thumleft: Look forward to doing it and the drive both ways woo hoo \:D/

The ferry isnt too bad you just have to tell them you are a low rider 8)

On the way home I was just allowed to park on the normal deck with all the lorries.
