Seriously?

You'd rather have a very fast modified Toyota than a very fast Porsche?

Surely you don't rate a car purely on how well it drag races off the lights?

I've realised over the last year that it's not just how fast these Supercars go but how safely and effortlessly they can do it.

I had a little play recently with a Porsche 911 and this thing went like stink and didnt even have to brake. It was a DC with a few bends and down hill too. He just went and not once did his brake lights come on. I tried to keep up but an MR2 isnt up to that.

Then I had a Gallardo pull out infront of me more recently, he went round a round about at speeds I find hard to comprehend!!

Not to mention they will still be worth something in 20 years time.

But isn't that why we (or at least I) love the '2, its a real drivers car

I personally don't see the fun in having your foot to the floor and the car doing all the work to brake when it needs too - just like an Evo or Scooby too - I'd never buy one.

Just my 2p :)

A REAL driver's car? On what basis? That it's mid engined and RWD? Or that it's more difficult to control than other sportscars? In that case, doesn't that qualify the 911 as being even more a driver's car?

Still love mine before anyone asks - just recognise it for what it is. Cheap fun RWD sportscar.....

And all that Clarkson stuff about EVOs and "just put your foot down and the car sorts it out for you" is complete nonsense. You still have to be supremely talented to drive either of those cars anywhere near the limit, especially when the corner speeds are that much higher due to the superior mechanical grip.

Obviously you've never driven a 911 with the PSM turned off.

guys, wow there, calm down!

I was merely trying to say the '2 is a very involving drive, there is nothing really to help the driver handle the car, its more pure in that way.

Appreciate that it still takes skill to drive an evo on the limit but at such speeds is it really suitable for road use anyway?

No I haven't driven a 911 at all and wasn't directly refering to that anyway. Sure, without all the electronic controls on its probably the best road car period. Although I'm just going on what I have heard and read so go easy on me

Play nice :D

With the PSM on the 911 is an understeering pig :( Take them off and you can actually steer the car with the throttle.

After doing a trackday in my track only tubby then a few weeks later a new 997 911 i have to say i'm much happier running a CTR daily with the mr2 as a track car than having a 911 to do both.

I've got change from the price of a cayman too.

At the end of the day guys, you can't force a person to like the car that YOU like.

I've been lucky enough to have driven all sorts of fast cars over the years, and my personal prefference is that I don't like Porsche's. I don't like Ferrari's either!

...but I do like my MR2.

Accept it.

The gt3 has a lovely tight LSD and is purely RWD.

The new turbo is AWD but spends most of it's live with most of the power going to the back.

I only like the leary looking 911's, the ordinary non turbo cheaper bottom end ones look blaaaaaaaand as heck.

I'd buy a Ferrari simply for the noise though..

Again, purely subjective mate.

I personally can't stand them.

I personally love Porsches .. Ferraris, especially the new ones, leave me cold. (But I'd love an F40, or a 288).

(digs out flame suit)

It's all well and good having a car as quick as a 911, but there are no modifications that can buy class. An MR2 can be a thousand BHP and run a quater mile in 7 seconds .. it's still just a quick Toyota.

(Edit, and by 'Porsches' I mean PROPPER ones GT2/GT3 .. std 911's seem a bit pointless)
