over here we struggle to find a mapper we will trust to do a good job, in the US and jap land there are numerous to choose from.

over here a 1000bhp supra or skyline is a HUGE deal, in the US and jap land this is been getting done for wel since the mid 90's anyway.

we are only now just getting to this stage

over here if we have cars with 500+ whp we say they are not street

friendly etc, in the US

+ Japland they are used daily in many occasions.

here huge power means drag only cars in most cases

(sometimes not very successfully adapted to track use) in japan they'r track cars are pushing the power some of our so called drag cars are

the list could go on forever justifying why i

(+ others) think we are still way behind the japs.

still we are getting there, but IMO will NEVER beat the japs at there own game

My word guys some of you really are way off the beaten track with some of your comments

First off, we happen to have some of the most advanced tuners/mappers over here in the UK specially when we're talking Motec.

Dave Rowe is a living legend in the tuning world and also travels the world mapping just about every car you guys read about over here in our mags!

Secondly, we have had Supras and Skylines pushing 1000bhp+ for the last few years now so again miss info

Again I have to say that when big power cars are referred to as being unfriendly on the road, I don't think it's so much because of how that power is delivered, more the case where it's delivered

! Our roads over here in the UK are a fare cry from those found out in the US and Jap land both in terms of size and quality

This is I think why you'll find massive power cars don't suit our roads so well

As for big power cars over here only being drag able, have you not been following the Time Attack series over here

We have cars running 10's and 9 second 1/4 miles all of which are devastating out on track!

I think you have to look at it in context.

The Japs are bound to be ahead of us because they are tuning JDM cars which obviously gives them an advantage over us guys here given that for the most part the cars they have become so good at tuning hit our shores some years after they had gone to town on them.

To help prove my point, how well do you think they would do if they were tuning Cosworths out there.

Given that the car is based in Europe and so parts would have to be sourced from the UK along with the difficulties of navigating our English sites and finding able suppliers etc etc!

Do you guys see what i'm trying to say? Given how much of a head start they have on us we haven't done all that bad at all really.

Now I know some clever bu88er is going to say, well if the above is true then how comes the US is so far ahead

!? Well in truth i'm not so sure that they are to tell the truth.

I hate to say it but their is a lot of bull floating around out there regarding power outputs, and where it's not bull you also have to remember that they use different dynos to us so comparisons can't always be made like for like.

Of course you can then offer up the cold hard facts that are 1/4 mile time themselves, but then in turn hold those up against what's going on over here and you'll see that we're not all that far behind if at all in the Jap scene

I would have to say that in the world of the 2 they seem to have as a whole some faster cars than us, but then given the size of the country is that really so surprising

? lol

All that being said I think 2007 will be a year where some new, well developed and UK built MR2's hit the scene.

It'll be interesting to look back at this thread at the end of next year and see if we've managed to knock the Yanks from the top of our leader board

!? I for one intend to and i'm pretty sure Andrew will be aiming for the same thing

lol
