FINAL UPDATE!! 12th October 06

This is the final route...

Part 1...this starts when we come off the A40...

Note that when we go under the tunnel from Picadilly/green Park area...we merge with people coming off from the roundabout...so this can get a bit busy as we need to switch into the left lane to go down sloane street

Image

which continues onto map part 2...note: Tower bridge is 20mph and has SPEC cameras..

Image

Will be dishing out the printed/larger copies on A4 when you lot arrive to Ace Cafe....hope u all will enjoy the day. :D

Its a teeny bit adjusted from the link I supplied but to be prepared for the route, please have a look at the routes and get familiarised a little just in case

I checked the weather forecast there seems to be NO RAIN...should be a dry day...woohoo

Wont need much money...jus petrol and some dosh for a bite. :D

All OC and IMOC members welcome!!

Latest UPDATE!! 10th October 06

Done a route re-run on sunday night with trd2000mr2 and we found a large area in near the buckinham palace gate where we can hopefully stop off for 5 mins as long as the queen doesnt moan. Instead of going through Picadilly (and the big SANYO sign) we will run through the St James Park area and through onto green park from trafalgar square....

Will Post full map and pictures within next couple of days.

UPDATE!! 4th October 06

Got a reply from westminster london council and inspector of scotland yard police 2day.

"Inspector"

Anthony
I have seen your proposal,
provided that all participants have valid driving licences, insurance etc, and all drivers
abide by road traffic regulations etc (keeping within speed limits, stopping at red traffic lights,
no parking where it is not allowed etc etc) we have no real concerns.
Your route may be subject to change depending on what happens on the day, for example if a march or
other protest is notified to us between now and 15th Oct you may be re-routed, but this is unlikely.
I hope you all enjoy the day.
For up to date information about road closures see the Met Police website - www.met.police.uk
and click on "public events and demonstrations".
regards
Stuart Cornish
Inspector
New Scotland Yard.

"Westminster council

Dear Anthony

I refer to your email below, MR2 Run 15th October.

City of Westminster section

Waterloo Place is booked out by a large film unit to use as their unit base, caravans, catering, dining bus, etc, so is not available. The area in front of the Tate Gallery Millbank could not accommodate 30 -40 cars let alone 60, believe there is parking there for approximately 6 or 7 vehicles.

We have a small march leaving Marble Arch at 1500 hrs, travelling 1/2 way down Park Lane before turning into Mayfair and stopping, two lane closures southbound.

Other than that, as long as you keep to highway code, do not travel as a convoy you should be fine.

Please notify the Metropolitan Police of your event and route and comply with any conditions they may impose - Special Events / Public Order Branch 020 7230 9801

Please drive carefully through L B Brent, I live not to many miles from the Ace Cafe

regards
Simon Pearce

Special Events Manager
Special Events Group

Looks like we have to re-route the pall mall stop off point...im going on this sunday evening with another fellow member to look for a good place. Hope all goes well.
Will post map route up after I find another stop off point this sunday.

update 29th September 06

Route has been confirmed as shown below and will be showing a pictured man within the week with stop off points and any certain speed limits.

Meetup point at Ace Cafe 12.30pm, Redbridge lot can meet up im assuming 11:30ish and convoy to Ace Cafe?

Leaving Ace cafe and starting the Run at 1pm. I will give my number on the printouts when u lot arrive at Ace in case any1 cant follow a map

3 stop off points confirmed.

Start Run Ace Cafe
1: Pall Mall car park
2: Tate Gallery
3: Final stop off at Surrey Quays car park for food :) Finish run.

I spoke to Steve B on the phone who may make an appearance but with pictures and report write up this is very likely to make an appearance for the MR2 Only magazine. \:D/

update 30th August 06

CLICKY HERE!!

I took a sample run on monday and this route seems quite good. I know most of London so theres a bit of stop for tourists lol and go trafic but 70% should have some good flow movement.
This is a provisional route...20 miles...prob a good hour drive including the stop off points. I may change the last part instead of finishing at surrey quays. TBC

Meeting points;

1st Redbridge (East London A12)

2nd Ace Cafe (North London A406)

Hopefully the Essex/Kent/E London lot can convoy over to Ace cafe on the A406 and we can start off from there. TBC!!

From Ace cafe we head down the A40...onto
Bayswater road (nxt to Hyde Park)
Park lane (spot the Corvette and Aston showrooms)
Picadilly (Big SANYO sign, lot of tourists)
Haymarket (tonnes of tourists)
Pall Mall (1st stop off point)
Back onto Picadilly toward Green Park
Knightsbridge (this is where I saw a Lambo, F50, SLR Mclaren, Bentleys all parked together)
Embankment (2nd stop off point at Tate gallery)
Parliament square (Big Ben)
Victoria Embankment
Tower Bridge 20mph! (tonnes of tourists)
Across Bermondsey and ending at Surrey Quays where theres a mahoosive car park, with 5 restaurants, bowling, arcades and a few bars. :)

There are 3 stop off points so people can catch up or if they get lost which are Pall Mall, Tate gallery and ending at Surrey Quays.
Reasons why I aint picked Soho/chinatown/oxord st is due to too many 1 way streets, congestion and traffic lights. Trust me, would be best to avoid it.
It would break convoys really badly.

Keep posted.

Cmon London IMOC'ers?!! Maybe I might have to do some persuading at the Essex RR. :-k[/b]

yup, I'll be up for this one!
I've done several of these London runs with my old club (MX-5 owners club) and it was great fun. Lots of tourists taking pictures. You always get the occassional ar$ehole trying to show off with their civic typewriter etc, but a few flames from my exhaust and a bit of second and third gear wheel spin sent them packing! Won't be able to do that in my N/A MR2 though, but I'll still be grinning like a mad thing!!!!!

umm dunno yet...any ideas for a sunday? Was thinking of afternoon....i like to have a little lie in.

Peeps could meet at Redbridge at around 1ish , convoy to Ace Cafe.
Leave at 2pm?

Convoy should last around 1.5-2hrs?

Finish at Surrey Quays at 4ish?? Leaves time for Bowling, lunch/dinner/beer and whatever after...

I might extend the route to docklands tho...im still not sure...any1 got suggestions?

ill post the RX7 video later.

i went to the last rx7 london run...awesome rotary burbling, great night...

as for going through docklands, for the rx7 run, we had a stop off point under Westferry roundabout (the underground one, nice and warm and you can smell the food from the chinese restaurant above!). From there we went thru the blackwall tunnel to the millenium dome where it finished. Nice surroundings there.

From surrey quays, we could head back north thru the rotherhithe tunnel thru to docklands, then through blackwall tunnel to the dome. Turn it into a mini tunnel run for people to show off their zorsts!

How about a drive through Edgware Road? Take over the Rari/Lambo owners road for a bit  I guess it would be a pain to find parking for soo many cars though, could be interesting still :-k

Afternoon sounds good as peeps will be on the street ready to admire away 8)
