Phoenix Power Intercooler, Heatwrapping or not?

Hi all,

I see a lot of people wrapping the i/c pipes. And as you can see on the pictures mine are heatwrapped now too.
The wrapping aint very nice on all pipes anymore. So I'm thinking about taking it off.

What do you think... is it better to have the pipes heatwrapped or not?

I've heard the Phoenix Power pipes are already treated with a special heat coating?

Thanks,

Frederik

I have a PP intercooler and until recently I had the pipe work wrapped in heat reflective material.I heard mixed reports about the effectiveness of the wrapping so I did a little test.I went out in the car with the wrapping still on and drove the car in varying levels of traffic,I noted down the peak intake temp(shown by my Power fc commander) reached while driving around town and watched how long it took for the temp to drop back down once I'd got out of town and onto some open roads.I then did the same route with the wrapping removed and noticed that I reached exactly the same peak intake temps but once I'd got up some speed they dropped down alot quicker than they did with the wrapping on,so needless to say I left the wrapping off.

Cheers Bry, you saved me doing the testing. I have taken mine one stage further in that the the cream coloured coating on the pipes, whatever it is, looked rather grubby so I stripped it using a strong paint stripper and polished it up. With a set of Mikalor clamps and new SFS hosing it looks well smart. A great piece of kit, and I see it was supplied by that same gentleman who got me mine. Well done Harry, supplier of exotic tubby parts. A title he is well worthy of. =D> =D> =D>

Thanks all for your opinions =D> ,

Bry, thats really interesting!

So it seems most people heatwrap their pipes without having it tested, just because they think it helps #-o :-k

As bry said, yep it will reflect the heat but after a good blasting it will also keep the heat in!! So really not much point on the tubby!

I did the same experiment with heat wrapping and yes it takes longer to cool after heat sink, I now just heat wrap on the down pipe with exhaust heat wrap

Had my stock pipes heat wrapped when I first got the car, and after removing the wrapping, noticed a dramatic difference after driving in traffic for any length of time.

Conclusion:

Don't heat wrap the I/C pipes.

Wrapping the downpipe seems good to me too George :)

Thanks all for your reactions =D> You saved me a lot of testing

The ceramic coating is coming off, so I want to clean it up. Spraying it aint my first choice.

I would love to have the pipes chromed =P~ though... but that, I believe, aint good for the temp too...

Is there not may be a reason why phoenix used ceramic coating?
I know they did not use heat wrap material.
:-k What about the ceramiccoating for be sure may be?

Best regards
Harry
