pagid brake pads

Post by trd2000mr2 »

hi,

Id like a brake upgrade...but probably on a budget...so i was thinking of keeping the stock discs..with fast road pads all round, with a change of brake fluid and maybe braided brakes hoses... Is this a recommended set-up for fast road use and occasional track use??

from what ive gathered, pagid brake pads are the ones to get for the mk2? Anywhere sell them cheaper than Fensport?

Cheers :thumleft:

You should consider Rogue's Carbotech pads...pricey but damn good.

Sounds like exactly the setup I had on my MK2 Rev2. Pagid Fast road all around, Braided hoses (I'd go for Goodridge rather than Black Diamond from Fenpsort) and then DOT 5.1 fluid.

Should give you much better brake feel, and will be fade free for fast road and fine for most track work.

thanks for the quick replies guys..

i just checked rogue for the carbotechs....£92.81 for fronts and £88.11 for rears...

being cheap....think I'll be going for the Pagids! ...at half the price, cant really go wrong..but thanks for the suggestion.

and Ben, is there any reason why Goodridge hoses are better than the Fensport ones?

Hi TRD,

Yes I can recommend the Pagid pads, I have been using them exclusively on my car for a couple of years and I have no complaints at all.

Infact I can vouch for your whole set up as thats what I currently have (pagid pads, Goodrich hoses, new std discs and 5.1 fluid. details in my garage)

Fantastic!

Im just about to order them..

But first..anyone know what the difference is between Goodridge hoses and the Black Diamond(?) ones from Fensport? Goodridge hoses are better??

If theres no major difference, then ill order them all from Fensport...and get a nice club discount i hope!

Cheers

Pagids all round on stock disks on my Mk2 work well - also has braided hoses but as they were already on when I bought it I don't know what make they are.

However I heard a while ago that Pagid had been bought by Mintex, and that Pagid pads were getting hard to find ( very difficult to get them for Mk1s recently ).

Hi TRD,

I cant really answer that one as I have never seen the two side by side to compare.

I wouldn't have thought there would be that much difference though, If its the price of the goodrich ones that is putting you off have a look at the link below

Not sure about them being hard to find...Fensport and Camskill sell them!

As for the Goodridge brake hoses...check these out..

Myself and Si Cook fitted some to our Mk2s at the same time. Si's were goodridge, mine were black diamond.

Si's fitted on as supplied, no problems - and were slightly cheaper than the Black Diamond ones I got from Fensport.

The Fensport supplied Black Diamond hoses were basically lengths of hose with connectors on the ends - but not at the right angles. You ended up needing to over tighten the ends to turn them to the angle you needed for the hose to go on without any kinking - very poor for a premium product. Had the same problem with a second set of Black Diamond hoses too.

Goodridge are based over at Silverstone if you are in the area.

I got them to make me up replacement pipes for my last car, for the 4 pipes it only cost me £30 and they did it there and then. Unfortunately you have to take them your old ones as templates so you'll need to get a friend to take you.
