HAS MY TURBO GONE!!! :(

Post by kingmodest »

AAAARRGGHHHH! I thought id sorted all the running problems out and then a load seem to pop up! I had a scare the other day when i drove it 100 miles and when i came back to it the coolent had come out! (outv of the overflow i think) it had never done that before! and then the car has started tapping on idle, the car was tapping before the overflow prob (the sound seems to come from under the "twin entry turbo" badge) or round that area? and now when i boot the car im getting white smoke (it could have a hint of blue to it but im not 100% as im normally traveling pretty fast when it does it! its a rev1 ive bypassed the vsv, put a auto gauge boost gauge in it, but i dont have a boost controller! the hose just runns straight from the turbo to the actuator and i get about 0.8 bar boost, on a ct26 turbo. dont get me wrong the car still pulls like a b1tch!! (still throughs me into the seat!) i noticed a while back now (posted on the topic) that i was using quite a bit of oil, but a day later found that the timing was out by miles so had the timing sorted and now i get about 250 miles to a tank (100 better then i was getting!!!!) anyway i topped the oil up (1 litre) about a week ago, and checked it yesterday and it was still at the mark i topped it up to. but its all a bit un-nerving! how much are we talking for a new/ good used ct26? Thanks to anyone who actully managed to read through all this !! wel done..

The white smoke and the loss of coolant sounds like head gasket problems.Check under filler cap for white gunk and sludge, also check the oil colour for any milkyness and the water for any darkening and sludge. Only the oil loss points to turbo problems but I dont think that is your problem. Not sure on the tapping but could be coolant excaping into/air excaping out one of the cylinders caused by the failed head gasket.
You can get a good secondhand ct26 for less than £200 because not many people like/want them. ct20 is a good upgraid.

Theres no "mayo" in the system! there's always been a bit of crapy brown water in there but when that gets a flush it will go! thye car also still pulls real well still so i wouldnt of thoought it would be head gasket! its worrying though, i took it for a spin this morning and the temp sensor in the dash made it up to half way! (it never normally makes past quarter way!) but when i got out of the traffic and back onto the country roads itdroped back down to the bottom! well a few notches from the bottom anyway! so i put the heaters on and they wernt real hot they were warm! (i dont think the air con ever worked so i just put it on normal fan operation! but its the tapping thats most worrying.

sounds like a head gasket problem and a thermostat problem, the sign of the HG problem is the dumping of the coolant, this is caused by the system overheating and boiling over. Then you have the aditional problem of the temp gauge showing only 1/4 which goes up in traffic (common sympton of a stuck thermostat) - It would be worthwhile to get a compression check done this will show if the HG is having problems.
