surely people take life too seriously if they are offended by a 355 kit?

Ferrari owners dont like the fact that their cars can be immitated, making their 40k pride and joy less exclusive on the road.... Ghetto folk like me can drive cars that look like theirs and they don't like it.

Ferrari obviously doesnt like it, and I can understand that. It is stealing something they designed... thats fair enough. They have a right to be pi$$ed

I'm not a liar... but I don't mind fakes and copies of things as long as I like them. Sure it will look like a 355, but i won't hesitate on telling people its a replica.

I know someone could reply saying some noise about "the badges are telling people its a ferrari..bla bla" and technically that is true, no arguement there except the badges are merely a suggestion. I won't be wearing a ferrari owners club t-shirt and cap. (they wouldnt send me one)

As for MR2 owners upset? I'm an Mr2 owner and I'm not upset in the slightest. Infact I'm the one that told me to do it!

So where is the line mate? :-k CDs, software, clothes, watches, trainers, aftershave blah blah blah. Does this mean it's open season on all copyright infringing fake lookylikeys?

You cant say fakes are ok if you like them even if you just did, if you know what i mean.

Like I said, this is not an attack (this time?) but just letting you know WHY these responses happen. Whether or not you agree, both groups of people will show not respect and most of the time laff at you lot because of the reasons I've highlighted. It was mentioned before that it wasnt understood why it happens. When there you go, now you know.

If you can live with having a car thats disrepectful of 2s and the same of ferraris then go for it mate.

personally i like mr2s as near as standard as possible but with the proper kit you cant tell an mr2 apart from the ferrari unless you know what exactly your luckin for, i know of one that is done near me, think the kit cost 10k but its is the double image of a ferrari

just an update now that I have my car back as a f355...

Its true... it does fool everyone, except those in the know of course.

It doesn't make people laugh.

I do get abuse, but from people that think it's REAL.

A man and woman walked past me the other day when I broke down (alternator) anyway, she said "oooh nice car" (in a sexy voice) and he bitched "nice car...must have a small willy"... I didnt know what to say! At least he wasnt saying "...shame its not real or anything."

Imagine the two combined... "its not real AND must have a small willy!

I'd ask if he knew me :p

It is a real head turner. I bumped into a mate of mine who thought I must have won the lottery!

but... if I'm honest here... It does sometimes feel like a bad move...

only because I cant really afford it and I'm scared to park it anywhere as Im worried about negative attention it might bring.

What is the point in having a car your too afraid to enjoy? I guess that goes for any car/motorbike you love and cherish.

Thats all for now...

next update will be to say I love it or its a big mistake.

Time will tell i guess.

Good on you Eric – Enjoy your car! – Its pretty sad that there are people on this site willing to criticise your choice…

I could laugh at those that have fitted BOVs!! - Why??!

I could laugh at those who have thrown away a good CT26 Turbo to fit CT20s (Rev 1s and 2s have better 0 – 60s )

I could laugh at those who have spent thousands to squeeze a few extra horsepower out of an engine in a car that rally doesn’t need any more power…

Each to there own – and I’m glad we are not all driving around in copycat clone MR2s

Sorry Brian but all the points you mention merely involve (in your opinion) afew bad tuning choices.but they dont pretend to be something they are not.

the poor guy above raves about the couple saying nice car adn small xxxxx. Well ask yourself this. Whats worse, being told you have a small xxxxx because youve worked hard, made the money and treated yourself to a supercar that others become jealous of OR get an MR2, pretend to ahve something you do not and then stand there and take any credit (or insult) for having done everything a REAL Ferrari owner may have done in order to get the real thing.

If you ask me , its obvious who feels they need the xxxxx extension more so!

:? :?: Rev1s & 2s have better 0-60s? On what planet? All the ones I've driven have been dog-slow compared to even a standard healthy Rev3 (yes I know there are many tasty modded Rev1/2's on here before flaming commences!).

You don't need to spend 'thousands' to squeeze a lot more than 'a few extra horsepower' out of these cars - that's one of their best points. And once you've tried an extra 50 or 80 bhp you will soon realise how much better the car feels to drive. I can only assume you haven't?

For me, I just don't really understand the whole 'status' thing...I find it pretty sad. I replaced my MR2 with an SLK...why? It was the only car me & the wife could agree on - not because I was worried about the badge. We've also got a bashed-up Micra and I'm just as happy tooling around in that - I really couldn't give a t0ss what anyone else thinks. Modding the MR2 for more power was something I did because I wanted to - maybe the same as adding a Ferrari kit in your eyes but in my opinion only the same if the gentleman just really preferred the style of the 355 to the MR2 and really wasn't bothered about making people think 'he'd made it' or whatever. But personally, I'm none too convinced... :-k

I cant understand what the problem is....

Adding a ferrari kit is no different to putting a veilside/bomex/border kit on some fit well some dont.

Adding Ferrari badges and "suggesting" that its a Ferrari is no different to having a GT40 or AC Cobra kit car.

Why people feel the need put somebody down because they want to try something they think looks or sounds good beats me. Each to their own I say.

As for telling him to visit another site.....

If you are gonna be rude about other peoples ideas on thier cars - xxxx off to barryboys.....

they are not the same, veilside, bomex etc etc are kits, putting on a kit that resembles a ferrari is saying to people i own a ferrari, ie not a toyota, not a modified mr2, but a ferrari....

and Brian, not sure where on earth you got that info about rev1/2s being quicker with a ct26 than having a ct20b....

Only if you put ferrari badges on it..... imo

TRD kitting an mr2 then putting TRD badges on - does it make it an official TRD car?

I see your point tho Jim, maybe its not the best comparison my point was to show that ferrari kits arnt the only way to make an mr2 look like something else...

thats cool, but have you seen ANY ferrari kitted mr2s that didnt have ferrari badges, lol.....
i certainly havent, and theres no way theyd still have a toyota badge somewhere, lol...

trds, i agree, if its not a proper one, i think its wrong to put on a trd2000gt badge....
