OK, I've been offered an H reg MR2 GTI 1.6 with private plates, one owner an ederly gentleman, immaculate condition, been kept in a garage all its life and washed after every drive.

35000, yes 35000 miles on the clock

3 grand...

'bit on the high side, I'd have thought? Would think it would have to be showroom condition for that kind of money?

A very big yes if it is as per the description. A really good MK1 will easily fetch this kind of money. A one owner car thats been garaged all its life will be well worth it.

Do you have any pics and have you seen it?

not if its mint though and with mileage that low it sounds as if it is.

Finding a decent MK1 is getting harder these days. Just about any car you buy now needs work to it.

Sounds like its well worth a look to me. There can't be many H reg MK1s about either, so it would be one of the last.

Likewise - if he has got 35k, then I am afraid he has beaten my 36007 mileage on mine :-(

If its a 1.6 its a MK1 if its a 2L then its a MK2 is how i read it.

I too am wondering though for an H plate whether he means MK2.

I agree with you Lauren ,i have never heard of a mk1 H reg.

If it is a mk1 would be worth the money for the rarity!

sorry but i assumed it was a mk2.... they did make a 1.6 version in the first 2 years, though I don't think they sold many.

H was the 1st year of the mk2 right?

Goldy, a 1.6 MK2 was never made. They are 2l only, much like all MK1s are a 1.6.

The 3SFE is basically a Camry engine but is still 2 litres. I'm not sure of the details as to whether it was a single cam or a twin cam 12v or simply a detuned 16v, but it was defo 2litres, produced 119bhp.
