bigger wheels

Post by Andy »

Hi everyone
I know this subject has probably been done to death ! But I’ve had differing advice and its doin me head in !
I’m looking for some new wheels for my MK2 Turbo; the car has standard ride height and suspension.
I have 17 x 7 ET 45 all round at the moment with 205/40/17 tyres at the front and 215/40/17 at the rear. These just don’t fill the arches well enough.

Does any one know if 17 x 7 ET 35 and 215/40/17 tyres at the front and 17 X 8 ET 35 or 18 x 8 ET 35 and 225 or 235/40/17 tyres will fit straight on without hitting the suspension or body.

17 x 8 wheels seem to be hard to find

Thanks for any comments or experience you may have

Andy

While it's true 17x8" is harder to find, it's worth it because the car's worth it. :)

17x7 ET35 and 17x8 ET35 with 215/40 and 235(245)/40 will be a problem free fit and will fill up the wheel wells much better than your current setup - it's closer to flush in the rear, less so in the front.

I have 18x7.5 and they slightly touch on the plastic arch on the front drivers side.
Thats pretty low on c/o's though.

seconded!

altho i would be tempted with 245/35 on rear to keep to rolling radius...

with 17x8 on the back you can run 245/35/17, which are nigh on the standard rolling radius. and don't rub at all. And mines been lowered a fair bit.

Would that go for 245/35/18 too?

you'll be hard pushed to find someone in the uk that does those sizes as standard. you might be able to pick up a used set of jap rims in those sizes.

i have some used ones in 17x8 and 17x9

I went through the same thing when choosing wheels. All the offsets seemed to be too high. Finally chose these.

8 x 17 et35 215/40 front and 235/40 rear

Got them from here http://www.raceandroad.com/SelectedOneP ... 21&CatID=1

The Compomotive MO:-

http://www.compomotive.co.uk/

Doesn't look a million miles away from the above, and they can do them in most any offset or stud pattern as well as a good variety of widths & diameters. My mate got a completely custom set made for his V8 Spitfire
http://www.madspit.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

On his car not only did he have to get 2 different widths but different offsets & stud patterns too! Think they were around £140 each?

I'm pretty sure someone on MR2OC has a black set on an SW20?
