I think it's usually about 5 litres to top up the engine so you might fall a bit short. On this subject, Asda is the best place to buy oil (think it's about £15 for a 5 litre bottle of GTX 10w40).

You will need fully synthetic oil. The castrol GTX is fine for NAs but not turbos.

Try Halfords fully synth 5 litres for about £25

Moving to mechanical as it's more appropriate, will also be handy there for reference.

Might be missing something here but I'm sure its 3.6 litres without the filter and 3.9 with the filter.

...and/or something like 4.1 dry sump and 3.9 wet. Regardless, 4 litres should be enough, given that it's very hard to get all the oil out with situ draining alone.

Give a thought to the oil being used though... oil and filters are cheap, engines and repairs can be expensive.

...which comes out as "Perhaps approximately 4 liters of oil" (according to Babel Fish), so nice of the Japs to be quite sure of their quantities! :D
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

Mine is bang on 3.9 litres with a filter change.

Always change the filter with each oil change! And 3,000 miles is strongly recommended for the turbo.

Oilman (oil expert who posts occasionally) specifically recommends fully synthetic Silkolene Pro S 10W-50 oil for the MR2 turbo. Its what I use. I think I'm on the right lines when I say the number before the 'W' refers to the oil's ability to protect the engine when cold, and the number after the w is its abiity to protect when hot. I guess it makes sense therefore that the turbo is better having 10W-50 rather than a 10W-40 oil?? But don't quote me!!

If you want to get some or ask them about it their email is:

I'm not an oil expert so don't want to say anything that's not correct.

I would have thought 10w40 should be ok. However, I've been told that 10w50 is better, as its a turbocharged engine. And therefore will do more to protect the engine.

Its up to you what you use, the Silkolene stuff is not expensive IMO its about £30 per 5 litres.
